Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters and postal cards. These are not filed consecutively from October back to January. Most of this folder contains requests for Agricultural Yearbooks and indicate Wilson’s replies. Selected examples are: 2 letters (10/5 & 10/13) from Donald O. Rosedale and Bernarr J. Hall (Farm Advisors, Co-Operative Extension Work in Agriculture and Home Economics, University of California) and Wilson’s replies (10/12& 10/21) re/ Wilson’s response to the request for “a copy of the 1960 Agricultural Yearbook POWER TO PRODUCE;” a collection of 14 letters and postal cards requesting the 1960 Agricultural Yearbook “POWER TO PRODUCE” and Wilson’s letters of reply (Aug.-Oct.) – these requests are from constituents living in San Diego, Borrego Springs, El Cajon, Chula Vista and Bonita and also include the Director of the Dept. of Economics, San Diego State College, and the Dairymen’s League of San Diego County; a collection of 5 letters & Wilson’s replies (Oct.) re/ similar requests for the “POWER TO PRODUCE” from constituents such as Charles C. Yahr (Associate Professor of Geograpy, SDSC) and Howard Keddie (Farm Director, KGB); a letter (4/11) from Ramona constituent Floyd O. Burrie, Sr. & Wilson’s replies (4/14 & 5/9) re/ Mr. Burrie’s request for the 1960 Agricultural Yearbook and information on raising “Mew Worms” as fish bait; letters (5/18 & 5/23) re/ to Mrs. Paul M. Shanklin - “We have forwarded the Agricultural Yearbook for 1958 LAND and the Yearbook for 1959 FOOD . . . . The 1960 Yearbook will not be available until the first of October;” postal card & two letters (12/59 & 1/60) re/ request for Yearbook from a La Mesa resident and the County Registrar of Voters assured Wilson that La Mesa was in his Congressional District not Congressman Utt’s: a collection of 25 letters & postal cards and Wilson’s replies (from Jan.-July) all requesting the 1959 Yearbook “FOOD;” a letter (6/3) from San Diego constituent A. Van Norman & Wilson’s reply (6/10) re/ Mr. Norman urged Wilson to support the Wilderness Bill, HR 8358 (Point Reyes National Seashore) and requested the 1959 Yearbook FOOD and Bulletin 1255 – “Occupational Outlook Handbook;” letters (Jan.,Feb., Oct. & Nov.) & an editorial excerpt from The San Diego Union (2/6) re/ Jacumba residents, Taze & Jessie Lamb, request the 1959 Yearbook FOOD & as conservatives praised Wilson and also supported the editorial “Reds and Passports – Let’s Not Help Subversives;” the last 80 or more letters & postal cards in this folder (including Wilson’s replies) cover the period Jan.-July) & contain requests for the 1959 Yearbook FOOD. Most were from constituents in Wilson’s Congressional District & included business interests, school districts, colleges & other agencies.
