Public Relations: Agricultural Yearbooks, 1963
Scope and Contents
A small number of letters, office notes & cards all requesting various copies of the Agricultural Yearbooks. These are filed in a somewhat random chronological fashion. Selected examples are: a letter (2/9) from San Diego constituent Mrs. A. C. Williams & Wilson’s reply (3/18/63) re/ “Under separate cover, we are forwarding you a copy of the Agricultural Yearbook entitled ‘After a Hundred Years,’ which we think will be of interest to you;” a letter (2/4) from Phyllis E. Cleveland (County Secretary, San Diego County Farm Bureau, Inc.) & Wilson’s reply (2/19) re/ “Will you kindly send us a copy of the 1962 Department of Agriculture Yearbook. We appreciate your continued assistance to Agriculture in our county;” 4 letters (Jan.) re/ La Jolla resident Robert C. Weaver, Jr. is planning to enter the School of Forestry at the University of California and sends money for a copy of the Yearbook pertaining to TREES; a letter (rec’d 12/7/62) from Richard W. Perkins (Professor of Geography, San Diego City College) requesting various years & titles of the Yearbook; a letter (3/11) from Miss Sandra Dewse & Wilson’s reply (3/21) re/ “Thank you very much for forwarding the tape of your last YR meeting. I enjoyed hearing Herb Klein’s down to earth observations . . . . I like the way he takes all the mystery out of the current political picture . . . . It was a pleasure to hear your fine choral group sing those patriotic songs;” letters (Mar.) re/ Wilson’s office was forwarding copies of 1955 WATER & 1961 SEEDS to constituent V. A. Schmitt, but indicated their supply of the other book requests was exhausted; letters & notes (Apr.) re/ El Cajon constituent Wayne Brown (Harbison Canyon Rd.) is sent several copies of the Agricultural Yearbook & a list of bulletins on livestock; 4 letters (May) re/ a response to requests from John L. Tacker (Buggsy Tacker Termite & Pest Control, El Cajon) for the 1952 Yearbook INSECTS; letters (7/22 & 7/30) re/ W. J. Dubis (S.D., Paul Jones Av.) sends $2.00 for a copy of GRASS & thanks Wilson “for the efforts you have put forth in the enactment of legislation pertaining to the service personnel and especially the long awaited and still forthcoming pay raise;” 4 letters (May) re/ a La Mesa & a San Diego constituent are sent a copy of AFTER A HUNDRED YEARS; 3 letters (7/29 & 8/7) re/ Kenneth K. Little (Senior Deputy Agricultural Commissioner, County of San Diego) is sent 2 copies of the “Century of Service, the First 100 Years of the U. S. Department of Agriculture” – one for the department library and the other for Mr. Little’s personal use; 4 letters (May & July) re/ a Camp Pendleton Marine wife requests several copies of the Yearbook FOOD & Wilson sends copies to those who were legal residents in his district; 2 letters & a thank you card (Aug.) re/ Miss Shirley Corwin is “studying home economics at the University of California, Davis,” worked during the summer for the Home Economics Dept., SDG&E & would like a copy of the1959 Yearbook FOOD; 2 letters (Sept.) re/ Miss Andrea Tromblee, a senior at SDSC & a summer assistant home economist at SDG&E, requests a copy of the 1959 Yearbook FOOD; 6 letters (Oct.-Nov.) re/ constituents from Spring Valley, Lemon Grove & Coronado are sent copies of the 1959 Yearbook FOOD; a letter (12/30/63) from Wilson to the Congressional Liaison Office, Dept. of Agriculture re/ Please mail 100 copies of each number on the check list to Mrs. Lorraine Goldman, Dunbar High School, 1st and “N” Streets, N. W., Washington 1, D. C.”
