Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, postal cards & memos. All contain requests for copies of Agricultural Yearbooks, but a few have political commentary. These are not filed consecutively. Selected examples are: letters & post cards (June & Oct.) re/ requests for the 1959 Yearbook FOOD; “Memo To Washington Office” (9/1) from Arlene - “When they are available, please send copy of 1964 Year Book of Agriculture to: U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Plant Quarantine Division, 1350 Front Street, Room 6054, San Diego, 20101;” a letter (5/26) from Arthur Patoff (teacher, Samuel F. B. Morse High School) & Wilson’s reply re/ a request for the 1963 Yearbook “A Place to Live;” a letter (5/19) from constituent William W. Smith & Wilson’s reply (6/10) -- out of 7 titles requested Wilson’s office had exhausted their supply of TREES & SOIL; letters (Oct.) re/ Wilson’s supply of the 1959 Yearbook FOOD as requested by Clairmont High School teacher Miss Beth Shonts was exhausted. She would have to purchase a copy from the Govt. Printing Office; a letter (9/29) from Mrs. Emile Duggon (San Diego High School) & Wilson’s reply (10/7) re/ a request for the 1964 Yearbook FOOD; a letter (10/2) from San Diego constituent Mrs. William W. Henderson & Wilson’s reply (10/19) re/ a request for a copy of the 1964 Agricultural Yearbook & “We are pulling for your success in the election and hope Dick makes it this time too. Would that someone could give Senator Goldwater some advice on what to attack in the administration – fiascos like the article in the Reader’s Digest for October about Wink, Texas and the usurping by the Supreme Court of legislative functions;” a letter (rec’d 11/9) Chula Vista constituent Joseph V. Bush & Wilson’s reply (11/9) re/ request for 1964 Yearbook & “P.S. We were happy to see that you won your election, but were extremely sorry to see Dick (a fellow Rotarian) lose;” a letter (n.d.) from Eli S. Bjellos (Superintendent, House of Representatives, Folding Room) “To Members, Commissioner, P.R., and Officers of the House of Representatives, U.S. – Please be advised that the tentative date for the release of the 1964 Year Book (FARMER’S WORLD) has been set as September 14, 1964. Your account will be credited with 400 copies and you may draw on your account as you might choose; as an example of the number of requests for FARMER’S WORLD remaining in this folder see - letters (10/29 & 11/17) re/ James H. Adams (Librarian, Clairemont High School) re/ “Dear Mr. Wilson: Thank you for your gift of ‘Farmer’s World.’ It will be a welcome addition to the library shelves;” There remains dozens of letters, including Wilson’s replies in this folder. Schools, Universities, Colleges, public agencies and many, many constituents are noted in these letters and cards.
