Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, notes, news clippings, telegrams & card. These are not always filed chronologically. Selected examples for 1953 are: A letter (2/14/53) from VAdm. W. M. Callaghan to Wilson re/ “congratulations to you upon your election;” letter (5/27/53) from Wilson to Leo A. Hamecher & news clipping (5/22) re/ “Just a brief note of congratulations on your recent election to the presidency of the North Park Lions Club; letter (6/2/53) re/ Wilson congratulating Hamilton Marston “on your new job as President of San Diego’s landmark, the Marston Company . Here’s wishing you years of success ahead that will match or even surpass the years that your grandfather and Father contributed to the growth and welfare of the Community;” over a dozen copies of letters in May 1953 from Wilson congratulating the following people: Mr. & Mrs. George A. Scott (first child), Mr. & Mrs. E. Harrison Amos (birth of Sheila), John Fansher (20th Anniversary of Ramona Pharmacy), Congressman Miguel Caliette (election for the new state of Baja California), Fred S. Hage, Jr. (Solar Aircraft Co. in Des Moines, IA), William Sample, Jr. (new Chief Lion for next year), Franklin F. Swan (successful tour as City Councilman), Capt. Donald L. Mills (Commanding Officer, Miramar NAS), RAdm. John W. Roper (Commandant 11th Naval Dist. retirement), Miss Mae Entwisle (Miss San Diego), RAdm. George R. Henderson (appointment as Commandant of 11th Naval Dist.), Mr. & Mrs. Charles A. Mussen (55 years of marriage) & Dean C. E. Peterson (help and guidance to Wilson); 2 telegrams to Clair Burgner (his election); Wilson letter (4/21/53) to Mrs. Leslie MacMullin (President, S. D. County Federation of Republican Women re/ “reforms that are needed after twenty years of socialistic government;” letters (4/9 & 4/22/53) re/ Wilson’s first official speech before the Central Republican Women’s Club in San Diego; letters (4/9 &423/53) re/ similar praise for Wilson’s speech to the Rotarians; letters (Mar. & Apr. 1953) re/ L.
