Scope and Contents

An assortment of letters, notes & cards requesting the 87th Congressional Directory – Examples are: letters (1/3 & 1/13) re/ constituent Norman Smith is informed by Wilson that “Due to the small number of Directories allocated to me. . . . it will not be possible to send a copy to you;” letters (1/5, 1/11, 1/16 & 1/24) re/ politically conservative Mrs. Jo Poland’s request for information on the Urban League taken from “page 2088, Volume 5 – of the report of the House Committee on Un-American Activities, Seventy-Seventh Congress” (11/5/40) was facilitated and Mrs. Poland was also placed on a waiting list to the receive 87th Congressional Directory; letters (1/4 & 1/12) re/ Arnold Klauss (Asst. Mgr. S.D. Chamber of Commerce) is placed on a waiting list for the Directory; letters (2/17 & 2/24) re/ John P. Starkey (President, Southern Mortgage Co.) “will get a copy of the Congressional Directory . . . as soon as it comes out” – also comments on pro Nixon speakers & other about local Republican Central Committee actions; letter (3/1) re/ Mrs. Marjorie S. Bradley (President, the Republican Woman’s Club of El Cajon) is informed that her name has been placed on the list to receive the Congressional Record the Directory; a letter (4/25) from Mayor Dail thanking Wilson for the copy of the new directory; postal card & letter (May) re/ Chula Vista constituents Mr. & Mrs. J. M. Jensen are to receive “two copies of the ‘Code of Ethics for Government Service’ and a back issue of the Congressional Directory;” letter (5/12) from Shirley McGuyer (Secretary to Mr. Gary, Van Camp Sea Food Co.) re/ request for 1961 Directory; letters (May) re/ Congressional Directory sent to editor Sandra Puffer for the “Clairemont Republican Woman’s Club Newsletter;” letters (MayJuly) re/ more requests for Directory from Miss Della L. Sayre, W. H. M. Sweet (San Diego Employers Assn., Inc.), August Felando (General Mgr., American Tunaboat Assn.) & Mrs. Dorothy L. Taylor (Central Files Supervisor, SDG&E); letters & office memos (July &Oct.) re/ personal commentary between Louise Lynch & Maggie about the difficulty Mrs. Ruth McClain had in obtaining a copy of the Congressional Directory from her colleagues at the Chamber of Commerce.
