Scope and Contents

This is a small collection of letters & telegrams. These are filed from October to April. They all appear to address issues related to expediting passengers through customs at their Ports of arrival. Selected examples are: 4 letters (Oct.) re/ Wilson requests “Courtesy of the Port” in San Francisco to the arrival of constituent Mrs. Mary E. Billick “who will arrive San Francisco aboard Pan-American Flight 121 at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 17th;” letters & telegrams (July-Aug.) re/ Wilson extends Courtesy of the Port to Mr. & Mrs. Al Harper (San Diego Neon Sign Co.) and Mr. Harper comments on their trip to Europe; 3 letters (July) re/ “Mr. Edward H. Hinkle and family will clear Customs promptly when they arrive aboard the SS GRIPSHOLM on August 11, 1958;” 5 letters (June) re/ Dr. C. R. Schroeder (San Diego Zoological Society) - his trip to Europe, his return and his comments on H.R. – 12126 – livestock quarantine legislation; letters (6/24 & 6/27) re/ Wilson to the Collector of Customs, New York: “Mr. and Mrs. Ruel Liggett and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mitchell, constituents of mine will be arriving in New York aboard the NorweigionAmerican Line Bergensfjord on August 12. I would appreciate if you extend to them the Courtesy of the Port;” letters (June) re/ Wilson facilitates a Courtesy of the Port for a constituent’s friend (Miss Elizabeth Jane Ellis) arriving in New York on the SS Queen Mary; office note & letters (May-June) re/ Robert W. Dill (U.S. Collector, N.Y.) arranged “courtesies to be extended to Mr. & Mrs. Reaves Elledge arriving aboard the SS UNITED STATES on June 9, 1958;” office note & letters (Apr.-May) re/ Miss Carol Harford, a good friend of Wilson, receives the courtesies of the New York Port on arrival on May 4 on the SS Excaliber; office note & letters (Apr.-May) re/ Keith Atherton (Atherton & Atherton, S.D.) receives Courtesy of the Port when arriving at Idlewild Airport on Flight 533, Sabean Airlines; telegram & letter (4/15 & 4/21) re/ Wilson responds to Al Harper’s request for assistance when they return from their planned trip to Europe.
