Scope and Contents
This is a large collection of letters, memorandum, memos & other items. These are not filed in an exact chronological order. Selected examples are: 7 letters (Oct.-Nov.) re/ Wilson arranges to have the new 50-star flag flown over the Capitol for Lakeside Cub Pack 45; 1 office note & 5 letters (May-Oct.) re/ the request for a 50-star flag for El Cajon Brownie Troop No. 648 had to be delayed because these flags “cannot be flown over the Capitol until July 4, 1960;” 5 letters (Aug.-Oct.) re/ Congressman Wilson tentatively accepts the invitation to be a guest & to present a flag at the dedication of the new Hilltop Junior High School (Chula Vista) on Nov. 3rd; letters (June-July) re/ the Bostonia Baptist Church will receive a 50-star flag for their newly formed Boy Scout Troop No. 390; memorandum & letters (Oct.) re/ flags for the Disabled Officer’s Association and the Preston Morrison Family; five letters & office note (11/59-7/60) re/ 50-star flag to be presented to Kearney High School when it opens this fall for presentation ceremonies; letters (Oct.) re/ a flag for the National Assn. of Broadcasters and Technicians; memorandum & letters (Dec.) re/ flag flown over the Capitol for the San Diego Section of the California State Association of Colored Women’s Clubs; letters (May) re/ 49-star flag for the San Diego Lodge No. 508, Loyal Order of the Moose; letters (Apr.) re/ the Mission Bay Field Youth Assn. opening day will receive a 49-star flag. This land was leased from the City of San Diego and was a project of the Pacific Beach Town Council; letters (Apr.) re/ a flag to be presented for the opening of the Hilltop High School in Chula Vista & Wilson’s praise for this school and “Chula Vista’s dramatic development;” letters (Mar. & Apr.) re/ the Kiwanis Club of Pacific Beach & Boy Scout Troop No. 549 worked out an arrangement to receive the 50-star flag then return it to Wilson to be flown over the Capitol after July 4th; memo (3/25) from Leon to Marge re/ the toy department at Marston’s is selling flags “under what we pay back here at our Stationary Store;” letters (12/59-3/60) re/ a flag for the Elizabeth Freese Elementary School requested by Mrs. Jack Burnett, Charter President of the newly organized P.T.A.; letters (3/10 & 4/12) re/ a flag request for a Girl Scout Troop from El Cajon constituent Mrs. Doris L. Boudreaux & her strong conservative rejection of “Senate Resolution 94, a bill which would delete the Connally Amendment from our acceptance of the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice.” Mrs. Boudreaux was legislative chairman of the Auxiliary to Lt. Sherman E. Denny Post 1052, V.FW; a number of stapled packets of letters (1959- 1960) re/ requests & flags sent for the following persons & organizations: Sam Muscolino (teacher Grossmont High); Brownie Troop 704 (Foothills Neighborhood of El Cajon); the Convair Astronautics Management Club at Vandenberg Air Force Base; Richard G. Gayle (Coronado); the California Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; the Linares Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; to the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla; the Girl Scouts of the San Diego County Council for their new campand-recreation building; Brownie Troop 398 of El Cajon & their signatures on the request letter; downtown branch of the Young Women’s Christian Assn.; El Cajon Girl Scout Troop 1093; 49- star flags for Hilltop Junior High School, Hilltop High School & Palomar Elementary School. Other items are: letters (Sept.-Oct.) re/ “a flag flown over the Capitol for the Women’s Civic League of Logan Heights;” stapled packet containing information about certificates mailed and size of flags for several organizations and people (Sept. & Oct.); letters (July & Aug.) re/ flag for the Peninsula Colt League of Ocean Beach & personal commentary for Leon Parma; letters (Oct.) re/ flags for Pine Valley Improvement Club, Bayside & Oneonta Elementary Schools & the San Diego Women’s Club; letters (11/59-10/60) re/ 50-star flag for the Boys’ Club of Clairemont; letters & newspaper photo (8/60-10/60) re/ flag for the Safety Patrol Boys of Fletcher Hills Elementary School; letters (June-July) re/ 50-star flag for Brownie Troop No. 125 of San Diego; letters & memorandum (June-Sept.) re/ flags for Saint Paul’s Lutheran Christian Day School, the Otay Women’s Club & the employees of the Ocean Beach Post Office, 13-year old Tony Rubalcava of Chula Vista & the Cabrillo Little League in Kearney Mesa; letters (Sept.- Oct.) re/ certificate & flag for the B.P.O.E. of El Cajon & letters (July-Oct.) re/ a flag & a certificate for the San Miguel Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
