Scope and Contents

This is another large collection of letters, notices, memos, memorandums & other items. These are not filed in chronological order, but do appear to be from May through December. Selected examples are: a stapled packet of notes, notices & letters (June-Sept.) re/ details as to the presenting of 50-star flags by Congressman Wilson at a special meeting of the La Jolla Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution; letters & note (March-July) re/ flag for the San Diego Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, also commentary against the repeal of the Connelly Act; memo & letters (June-July) re/ “flag flown over the Capitol of the United States for the Sons and Daughters of Guam . . . . celebrating the 16th Anniversary of the Liberation of Guam;” stapled packet of letters (Mar.-Oct.) re/ several flags for the Anderson family of Lakeside and others associated with this community; letters (Aug.-Sept.) re/ flag for the Carlton Hills PTA; letters, officer notes & memorandum (Aug.-Sept.) re/ flags for Mr. & Mrs. Ogden B. Armour, San Diego Branch No. 70 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the Grantville Kiwanis Club, the Bayside & the Oneonta Elementary Schools; other examples of memos and letters for August through October for special flags are: San Diego Downtown YMCA, St. Pius Catholic Church, the Filipino –American Veterans Assn. of San Diego, the Otay Womens Club, Boy Scout Troop 354 of Casa De Oro & 50-star flags for Louise Lynch, Marge O’Donnell, Maxine Green, Earl Cantos, Charles Kerch, Dick Grihalva & Gerald F. Champ; other groups and people featured in more memos, letters & notes for July through October are: the Normal Heights Chapter of the Eastern Star, the La Jolla High School, the Granite Hills High School, the Silvergate Lions Club, the San Diego Military Academy, the Norbert Vanderveer Phister family, the San Diego Woman’s Federated Club & the American GI Forum of San Diego- Chairman Armando Rodgriguez; letters (June-Aug.) re/ flag & Republican politics as to pro-Nixon Wilson & the Bozell & Jacobs firm of Advertising and Public Relations; memorandums for Lee Wade (July-Aug.) re/ lists of those to receive 50-star flags such as – the Eucalyptus Hills School, the Lakeside Optimist Club, Boy Scout Troop 390 of El Cajon, the Kearny Mesa Teen Canteen, Saint Paul’s Lutheran Christian Day School, the Peninsula Colt League Park & many others; more letters, memos, news clipping, etc. as to 50-star flags (May-Aug.) for the following are: Cub Scout Pack 324 of La Mesa, J. Jessop and Sons for their house in Point Loma, a Union (7/5/60) news clipping showing photos and story regarding flag flown at the County Fair, Chula Vista Woman’s Club, Kearny Mesa Woman’s Club, Stonewood Lodge (Downey, CA), the Order of Rainbow for Girls, Lakeside Optimist Club, Pioneer Little League of Santee, Dr. French Kidd (Optometrists) orders flags for the Redwood Shuffleboard and Roque Courts Clubs in Balboa Park and also congratulates Wilson on his “ ‘run’ in the primary – may this be a criterion that will help ‘carry’ Nixon in – more power to you,” Realtor Edna South on politics, Wilson & a flag for her son-in-law Martin Dyett, a note to Maggie from Marge & Wilson letter re/ Chula Vista Little League; letters (8/59-5/60) re/ delayed flag and certification to David & Michael West of Arlington, VA; stapled copies of letters & other messages (Oct.-Dec.) finish out this folder - these concern flags and other commentary re/ South Bay schools, the College Grove Post Office, the Holy Trinity School, the Emerald Hills Woman’s Club, Ella B. Allen & Sunnyside Schools of Chula Vista, Gary Pollard of National City, the Heintzelman Woman’s Relief Corps No. 1 and Girl Scout Troop 1400 of Marston Junior High School.
