Scope and Contents

This is another folder containing a large amount of letters, brochures, memorandum, memos, & notes. These are filed from December 1961 back to November 1960. Selected examples are: letters (Nov.-Dec.) re/ Mr. & Mrs. Everett F. Parsons of El Cajon request 50-star flag to be presented to Poker Flats Ghost Town, Alpine, California; letters (Nov.-Dec.) re/ flag for Cub Scout Pack 304, Den 2 of San Diego; letters (Nov.-Dec.) re/ VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3788 requests flag for the Children’s Hospital; letters (Nov.-Dec.) re/ “staunch Republicans,” Mr. & Mrs. Forrest G. Fogg of La Jolla, receive the fifty star flag and a certificate; letters (Nov.) re/ flag for El Cajon Brownie Troop 872 & their letters to Wilson; a copy of “Dedication Mar Vista Jr. High School, November 14, 1961, 7:30 P.M.; letters (Nov.-Dec.) re/ presentation of flag to Saint Augustine High School; letters (Oct.-Nov.) re/ flag for La Mesans Mr. & Mrs. Edwin G. Frazier & “good Republicans;” letters (Oct.-Nov.) re/ Westwind Riders, a youth riding club in Bonita, request flag flown over the Capitol; letters (Oct.-Nov.) re/ Washington Elementary School – “one of the first schools in San Diego. It formerly was called Middletown in the late eighteen hundreds” – receives a fifty star flag; stapled packet of correspondence (10/59-11/61) re/ fiftystar flag and certificate for the Grandmothers Club of North Park and Girls Club on 30th St. – Nancy Morgan, Auxillary to the Grand Army of the Republic; 2 letters (9/20 & 9/22) re/ Wilson on Arthur Godfrey show; letters (Aug.-Sept.) re/ request for flag from William H. Potter (La Jollan & formerly a Phoenix resident) supports Wilson, voted for Nixon and wishes to assist Wilson and the GOP; letters (July-Sept.) re/ flag for the YMCA Greenwood Youth Center and personal commentary to Wilson; letters (Oct.) re/ political conservative Miss Winifred Dunbar thanks Wilson for sending the 50-star flag to present to the Stephen C. Foster Elementary School & includes a student’s letter; letters (June-Oct.) re/ Paul Ecke, Jr. (The California Poinsettia Grower) requests a flag for his son Paul Ecke III –other commentaries of interest as to local events and prominent San Diegans; stapled packet containing letters (Aug.-Sept.) re/ flag for Wesley Palms & promotional brochure - “Gracious Retirement Living in Sunny California;” office note & memorandum to Leon from Cathy (May) re/ purchase of $233.63 worth of large and small flags; letters (May) re/ VFW Kearny-Mesa Post 3788 requests flag for a the local Pony League; letters (May) re/ new construction of Coronado’s Junior-Senior High School, request for flag, but Wilson unable to attend cornerstone ceremony because of attending the Conference on the Discontinuance of Nuclear Weapons Tests in Switzerland; letters (Apr.-May) re/ the Chula Vista Soroptimist Club receives flag for their new Norman Palace Center for Senior Citizens; letters (May) re/ American Legion Post 434 requests and receives flags for presentation to Castle Park High, Finney Elementary, and Halecrest Elementary Schools; letters & note (Apr.) re/ flag for opening game of North Park Little League in early May; letters (Apr.- May) re/ El Cajon constituent, Mrs. Brice Ball, President, Flight 2, the United States Air Force Mothers, requests & receives “a fifty star flag has been flown over the Capitol;” letters & card (May) re/ El Cajon Brownie Troop 539 receives flag and certificate – their card contains the girls’ signatures; telegram & letters (Apr.-May) re/ YWCA, San Diego Womens Club replaces 48-star flag with 50-star; memo and letters (Apr.) re/ Southeastern Little League is presented with flag; letters & memo (Mar.-Apr.) re/ La Mesa’s Brier Patch Elementary School receives flag and certificate; letters (Apr.) re/ Santee’s Sycamore Canyon Recreation Area receives 50-star flag; letters (11/60-3/61) re/ Odessa M. Calkins (American Legion Aux., Linda Vista Unit 231) is successful in ordering flags flown over the Capitol for Richard Henry Dana Junior High & John J. Montgomery Junior High Schools; letters (Mar.-Apr.) re/ the Kiwanis Club of Lakeside obtains a 50-star flag for Lindo Lake Park; letters (Mar.) re/ the California State Society of the National Society of the United States Daughter of 1812 and the Fighting Bob Evans Post No. 364 of the American Legion are sent flags and certificates – correspondence also contains personal commentary from Mrs. Josephine F. Newman; letters (Mar.) re/ El Cajon constituent Clemens Buehner of V.F.W. Post 2275 requests and obtains flag & certificate for the Boys Club of El Cajon; letters (Feb.-Mar.) re/ flag & certificate for the new Sycamore Canyon School; letters & office note (Feb.-Mar.) re/ 50-star for the Lower School Building of the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland; letters (Feb.-Mar.) re/ flag and certificate for the Gary Graf Little League Field; letters (Mar.) re/ the Clairemont Lutheran Church’s Boy Scout Troop 258 receives flag and certificate; letters (11/60-4/61) re/ flag & certificate for presentation to Explorer Post No. 868 of National City.
