Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, notes, memorandum, schedules, telegrams & news clippings. These are filed in random order and all appear to be associated with requests for and the distribution of 50-star flags. Examples are: letters & office note (Mar – Apr.’60) re/ a 50-star flag for Brownie Troop No. 414; memorandum From Cathy To Jane (7/7/60) re/ “We are forwarding to you under separate cover some of the flags that were flown on the 4th to organizations Leon wanted . . . .;” a large stapled packet of letters, memorandum, notes & telegram (June 1959- July 1960) re/ details such as “Schedule for delivery of 50 star flag from U.S. Capitol to Southern California Exposition and the San Diego County Fair July 4, 1960, background planning for this, a brochure & other commentaries; letters & note (7/60) re/ flags for Arthur J. Jessop & Dick Grihalva Buick; memorandum (7/6/60) To: Lee Wade From: Congressman Wilson re/ a request for “Certificates for flags flown on July 4, 1960” for a number of San Diego area groups, organizations & schools; letter (7/15/60) from Cathy to Jane re/ contact for the Lakeside Eucalyptus Hills School; letters (5/31 & 7/5/60) re/ 50 star flags and certificates for Bryant C. Wilson, Leon W. Parma & Richard W. Wilson; memorandum & letter (7/15 & 9/22/60) re/ “Please have certificates made up for San Diego Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, Kearney High School, Sunnyside School, Ella B. Allen School”& Dorothy R. Glick (Principal, Ella B. Allen School) thanks Wilson for the gift of the 50 star flags; letters (7/14 & 7/26/60 re/ flag for Miss Nancy Swanson of Florida City; memorandum (I7/15/60) from Wilson to Lee Wade re/ “Please have a certificate made up for the Lakeside Optimist Club; letters (5/60) re/ Mrs. Alger B. Newman’s request for and reception of 125 copies of Flag Code, PL. #829, for distribution to various groups who support Wilson and the Republican Party, especially before the June primary; letters & news clippings (Apr. & May 1960) re/ news photo & text from the La Jolla Light showing 50-star flag presented to the La Jolla Senior Citizens’ Center & Mrs. Mary Martin (flag chairman, La Jolla DAR) will have it flown over Capitol on July 4th. She was an active supporter of the Republican Party – also attached a small news clipping from The San Diego Union (5/13/60 – a31) re/ “Archie Moore Office For Wencke To Open.”
