Scope and Contents

A large collection of cards, letters, telegrams, notes, memos & other items: these are filed from June 1963 back to December 1962. Selected examples are: a letter (6/14) from Kenneth J. Davis (Crossroads Lodge No. 696) & Wilson’s reply (6/25) re/ request for and reception of a flag flown over the Capitol; letters (June) re/ a request from Major B. C. Clark (Information Officer, 35rd Air Group, HQ, CAP, Gilliespie Field, Santee for a 3x5 Regimental Flag – Wilson could only send them a bunting flag for organizations; letters (May) re/ the San Diego Athletic Club, its May 14th banquet and a request for a flag; letters & resolution (Mar.-May) re/ the Pacific Beach Woman’s Club, in their new club house and with their “Flag Resolution,” requested and received a 50-star flag flown over the Capitol from Congressman Wilson; letters, memo & card (June) re/ “at the request of Harry Bianconi , we have forwarded an American flag, together with a frame certificate . . . for presentation to the Benedictine Sisters;” letters (Apr.-May) re/ flag & certificate for the San Diego Volunteers of America; letters & memo (May-June) re/ flag & certificate for the Woman’s Auxiliary – Hebrew Home for the Aged; letters, memorandum & news release (May 18, 1962 & May & June’63) re/ flag for the Golden Jubilee in La Jolla of Boy Scout Troop No. 4 “one of a very rare company in the United States;” additional organizations & groups for May, Apr. & Mar. are: Crossroads Masonic Temple, VFW Post 2415 for Portal Little League, Miss Doris Steck for the Madison Avenue Seventh Day Adventist Church School, the Orangewood Citizen’s Council for Baptist Estates, Inc., the San Diego Armed Services Y.M.C.A., the Linares Chapter of the D.A.R. for presentation to Madison High, Einstein Junior High & Holmes Elementary Schools, the San Diego Chapter of Wives of Submarine Veterans of World War II, the Woodmont Elementary School of Arlington, VA, a Wilson wedding gift to Mr. & Mrs. Salvatore Navetta, Mrs. Odessa Mary Calkins for the Pete W. Ross Elementary School, Fisher Aircraft Co. for presentation to the Point Loma #620 F. & A. M. Lodge, the El Cajon Pony League, Coronado Council No. 5616 of the Knights of Columbus, the St. Charles Borromeo Academy, Boy Scout Troop 268 & Cub Scout Pack A-OK, Carlton Hills PTA sponsor for Explorer Post Scout 838, 2 letters (3/21 & 3/26) from Edgar Gillinwaters (Wilson’s Admin. Asst.) & Geo. W. Young (V.P. Pro-Phy-Lac-Tic Brush Co.) re/ “Child’s Tooth Brush Offer” advertising a choice of the U.S. or the U.N. flag and Gillinwaters’ inquiry about this advertisement. Feb.-Jan. letters: the San Diego Display Assn., Mrs. Frank R. Mettlach (State Regent, D.A.R.) for Camp Cahito – Balboa Park - S.D. Council of the Camp Fire Girls, Brownie Troop 1031’s appreciation responses, Carey Gillenwaters for the Warren – Walker School, the San Diego County Employees’ Credit Union & the San Diego Municipal Employees’ Credit Union, Charles E. Payton (Ass’t Scout Master) for Scout Troop 885 of the Gregg Rogers School in Chula Vista, Charles Gage Brenneman re/ politics & flags, Edward H. Anderson (Principal) the Wright Brothers Jr.-Sr. High School, the Lutheran Service Center in Kaiserslautern, Germany , flag for dedication of Charles A. Lindbergh Elementary School, John H. Chamberlin & the Holy Trinity School, the City of San Diego Operations Center, Amanda, George & Timothy Rutherford, the Longfellow Elementary School, the Fredericka Manor, Brownie Troop 1132 & their appreciation signatures, five pages of Wilson office listing of “Flags – 1963” re/ “Name, Flag Forwarded & Certificate Forwarded” from Jan. through April.
