Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, memos, memorandum, order forms and listings, office notes, student appreciation signatures & other items. These are filed from December to May 1963, but are not always in consecutive order. Selected examples grouped into sets of months are: letters & notes (Dec.-June) re/ flags flown over the Capitol for John Marvin Elementary School and Mr. & Mrs. John R. Lynch; letters (Dec.-Aug.) re/ American flag flown over the Capitol for Williamette Tribe No. 300 of the Imperial Order of Red Men of San Diego; letters & memorandum (Dec.-Oct.) re/ the Saint Francis College in El Cajon; the Alpine Convalescent Center; letters, memo & office notes (Dec.-Oct.) re/ flag flown over the Capitol for presentation to Our Lady of Mercy Church, Potomac, Maryland on the 188th Anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps; letters (Dec.-Aug.) re/ flag for Lemon Grove constituent Mrs. Doris L. Heck; letters (Nov.- Oct.) re/ flag for Junior Girl Scout Troop #616 – Santee & their signatures of appreciation; a letter (11/21) re/ appreciation of Pacific Beach Junior High Student Council and the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Pacific Beach for the flag flown over the Capitol; letters (Nov.-Oct.) re/ the Junior Department of the Santee Methodist Sunday School students’ signatures of appreciation for the flag; a letter (11/15) from Mike Chamberlain (6th grade) Candalaria School of Salem, Oregon appreciates the flag sent by Wilson; letters (Oct.) re/ San Diego City wining the All America City Award in 1962 and displaying these flags on all city flag staffs, a citizen complained it was a violation of the Flag Code prohibiting advertising. The Justice Department’s conclusion was that this was not advertising; letters (Oct.) re/ Pacific Beach Junior High School Librarian Jeanne Newhouse requests and receives a flag flown over the Capitol; letters (Oct.-May) re/ the Institute of Religion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in San Diego requests and receives a flag and certificate; letters, note and “Flag Report “of the San Diego County Federation of Republican Women (Oct.-Sept.) re/ Flag Chairmen Mrs. Martha M. Smith, and Clubs in other states, seek Wilson’s support in flying flags from automobiles; letters (Sept.) re/ Francis Bale Pacific Beach California Federation of Women’s Clubs inquiries about the display of both national and state flags; letters (Sept.-May) re/ flag for Lyman Judson Gage Elementary School; letters (Sept.) re/ flag for the Santee School District; a number of letters & other messages (Sept.-Mar.) re/ flags & certificates for -- the Native Sons, the Native Daughters, Old Timers Club and the Pioneer Society for presentation on Admission Day in the Old Town Plaza; the Al Bahr Shrine Camp at Mt. Laguna; Mrs. Norval J. Highfill; Mr. & Mrs. Richard Henry; the dedication of the new National Bank Building in San Diego; for George A. Scott’s children, Walker & Andrea; for the Order of the Daughters of Penelope, Chapter 142 of San Diego – an auxiliary of the Order of Ahepi; a number of letters, notes & other items (July-June) re/ flags & certificates for Joe Harb (Harb Rug & Upholstery); Boy Scout Troop #4 of La Jolla; the opening of the Kearney Mesa Branch of the First National Bank; Mrs. Marie D. Young for #62, the Fleet Reserve Assn.; Mr. Charles Rose and Family; Mrs. Jerry Prager for her father Leland Wiese; Commander A. G. Franch for his daughter Dani’l Franch in San Diego; Ben Hayward; memorandum re: phone call from Marge as to 3 flags for 14 years old Frank Barrett (1963 Pop Warner All American Team of Little Scholars Pilgrimage) to present to the Mayors of Copenhagen, Stockholm & Oslo; opening of the San Carlos Club & a large packet from Washington Elementary School’s Miss Patricia Craig’s First Grade and containing their “enclosed fan mail.”
