Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, memorandum, resumes, notes, job application description & other items; these are not filed in exact chronological order. Examples are: Memorandum To Boss From: Ed. G. (4/23) re/ “Bob Grant came into our office asking assistance in relocating to San Diego,” Ed. G asked to write various defense industries calling attention to Robert H. Grant, Wilson Ok’d this request, and attached to this memorandum are 20 letters (4/29); responses to these recommendations from various defense industries follow in this folder; a letter (1/31) from Bryron F. White (Attorney at Law) to Wilson re/ “thanks for the referral of William Kachner . . . we have arranged to advise Mr. Kachmer as to his legal problems;” stapled packet of letters (12/62-2/63) and the “Personal Resume of Lloyd George Coutts” re/ his attempt to fill a 3rd Publicity Post for the San Diego City Schools; office notes (n.d.) re/ “Boss said to call Sterling Cole/ Re 7-6333 and tell him these are the men who will make decision on the AIA . . . .;” copies of letters (1/8 & 1/14) from Wilson re/ his recommendation of Brian Duff & Charles M. Fernandez; letters (2/9 & 2/25) re/ a retired Navy man seeks recommendation from Wilson; letters (Jan. & Mar.) re/ Wilson’s education recommendation for student Joseph Forster & Forester’s appreciation; a San Diego County Dept. of Civil Service and Personnel job application form, a “San Diego County invites applications . . . for the position of Director of Public Works” solicitation, a “Memorandum To: Boss From: Cathy” (2/6) & Carl Harvey Plumlee’s (Falls Church, VA) letter (2/8) to Wilson & his attached resume with photo; letters (3/16, 19, 29) re/ Wilson was pleased to see that his “good friend and counsel, Howard S. Fisher, owner of Fisher Aircraft Company, [had been approved] as a Fixed Base Operator on the Truckee Tahoe Airport;” letters (4/9 & 10) re/ Wilson writes a “To Whom It May Concern” letter to introduce “Richard G. Sears a Junior at Harvey Mudd College, Claremont, California . . . . Any courtesies extended Richard Sears while he is absent from the Country will be personally appreciated by me.” Richard was the son of San Diegan George W. Sears (First National Bank) and planned to tour a number of European countries; office note & “To Whom It May Concern” letter (5/14) re/ introducing “Mr. and Mrs. Alvin W. Morrison, very fine friends of mine and outstanding leaders of our Community;” letters & office note (May) re/ Chula Vista constituent & Rohr employee D. L. S. McCoy’s planned trip to Bonn, Germany; letters (May) re/ Wilson’s help to Herbert L. Boggs & W. H. (Hap) Hazzard trip to the “Scandinavian countries and Western Europe with a group of Rotarians from San Diego;” letters (Feb., Apr. & May) re/ Republican promotion for Betty Layton, daughter of Dorothea McCall (Hotel Del Coronado), who worked hard the last election for Congressman Schweiker and others in Pennsylvania; “To Whom It May Concern” letters (4/29 & 5/6) for Miss Harriet Levin & Miss Helen Sampson; letters (4/7 & 12) & resume of Ed Du Bois (La Jolla) re/ “Ed, I appreciate the assistance you and Mary Jo have given the Republican cause there at home and hope you will be successful in landing a position which will allow you to continue this effort;” “To Who It May Concern” letters (3/18), attached photo & letters (3/10) re/ Edwin F. Warns, staunch Republican since 1940s, applies for a position with the Colorado Republican State Central Committee; letters (July) re/ Mr. Samuel Wood Hamill (Supervising Architect, San Diego Centre City Concourse) & his interest in President Kennedy’s Advisory Council on the Arts; memo, memorandum & letters (May & Aug.) re/ personal information related to a young draftee assigned to duty in Germany and his wife’s search for a teaching job near his base; a copy of J. Duff Reed’s Resume; letters (July-Sept.) re/ helping W.A. Pepin (D.S.C., F.A.C.F.O., San Diego) obtain an introduction to Col. John W. Konosky (K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Michigan); stapled packet containing letters (June-Oct.) & resume of Edward A. (Ted) Rogers -- “Executive Producer – Producer – Writer”—who was “now a Vice President with Metro-Media. Best wishes and lots of luck in your new slot;” two letters (11/63) re/ Wilson thanks a Norway metal work firm for appointing friend Erik Bergaunst as their agent in the United States; note, envelope and job promotion brochure (Nov.) re/ the San Diego Unified Port District’s Marketing Manager; letters (10/19 & 11/8) re/ Wilson & friend Domenico Mattioni exchange letters as to Mattioni’s son’s contacting Governor Scanton of Pennsylvania for employment.
