Scope and Contents

This folder is similar in content to # 12 as to the requests. It is not organized in consecutive fashion. A large portion of the items are clustered for December back to November, then the letters revert to January to June. Examples are: letters (Dec –Nov..) re/ 8th grade La Mesa Jr. High history students Chris Kurtz, William R. Buquest, Jr., Robert Offord, Charlene Webster, Jeff Patterson, Lynn Hampton, Eulaine Lamm, Cynthia Haddock, Eric Halgren, Vicki Love, Thomas W. Kachians, Howard Fortenberry, Gary Van Nest, Denise Woods, Jeffry Eckert, Tom Julian, Michael C. Kennedy & Lee Barton are studying the Constitution of the United States and request materials. Wilson complies; other letters from the Dec.-Nov. requests are: Susan Lane (Coronado) re/ information on a flight to the moon; Kenneth R. Kurtz (La Jolla) re/ information on Medicare; Michael Wilson (San Diego) re/ the Disarmament Program; Bill Trevino (San Diego) re/ information on the “Fiscal Year;” John Hoff (San Diego) re/ Congressional Record; Margaret Lester (San Diego) re/ “information on the Constitution and the Federal Government;” Claudia Taylor (Wheaton, Illinois) re/ Model Congress project at her school and she represents Wilson; & a letter (12/4) from Susan Sadofsky (Peekskill, N.Y.) thanking Wilson for sending “pamphlets about our government.” Letters representing Jan-June are: Clinton Jones & Anita Lee (Bonita) re/ the voting age & the Cuban situation; Kathy Leech, Susan Roosenberg, Larry Hatton, Gary & Larry Roberts, Diane Chase & Beverly Browne (Chula Vista) re/ shortage of textbooks, opposition to federal aid to education, unemployment & starting a new CCC, against aid to Cuban refugees, opposition to the Peace Corps, enlargement of San Diego Bay & religious vs. public schools ; Gail E. Pennington & Lynn A. Rice (El Cajon) re/ information on the Constitution & a display of newspapers - Wilson sent The Dallas Times Herald; Dan Wariner, Stephenie Yarborough & Jerry Van Dyke (La Mesa) re/ a study of government & local labor disputes; Donna Kephart, Gregory Bishop & Greg White (Lakeside) re/ information on the Rockwell incident at San Diego State College, reasons why Congress refused to approve Kennedy’s Medicare proposal & water shortage in San Diego and Los Angeles; over a dozen letters from San Diego students re/ such topics as: racial integration, Wilson’s plans for California, documents on the Federal Government, help for the tuna fishermen, copies of the Congressional Record for school use, leading cases tried in the Supreme Court since 1840, information on the 13 colonies and the Civil War, information on the Post Office, on George Washington & Abraham Lincoln & “information about Rumania for use in your Civics Class;” 2 letters (May-June) re/ a long response of Wilson to a query from a number of Advanced English – 10th grade Herbert Hoover High School students as to the image of the Ugly American abroad & the capabilities of “many ambassadors and lesser representatives.”
