Scope and Contents

This folder is similar to folders 12 & 13 in terms of the request letters. Most are filed from December 1964 back to December 1963. Selected Examples Are: Over 14 letters from San Diego students (several from Woodrow Wilson Junior High) & Wilson’s December replies re/ such topics as: booklets helpful for the study of our government including the Declaration of Independence & the Constitution, the closing of the Naval Repair Facility, physical fitness & health, a Congressman’s daily schedule, Medicare , an invite to visit a class, the Coronado Bridge issue & a Congressman’s salary & information on assassination of Kennedy and the Bobby Baker Case; letters (Dec.-Nov.) from El Cajon students Jerry Beach, Steve Pillow, Alan Toft & Greg Kunkel re/ copies of the Congressional Record, fear of “creeping socialism,” information on taxes & attached copy of the Greenfield Junior High’s Thunderbird Magazine, Vol. III, Issue 3; letters (11/25 & 12/11) re/ Wilson is opposed to the King-Anderson Bill and so informs Miss Anne Marshall (Marshall High School, Portland, Oregon); San Diego student letters (Nov.-Oct.) re/ Senate Doc. 72 on nuclear weapons, information on the Poverty Program, Child Labor & request for a large map of the United States; La Mesa student letters (Nov.-Sept.) from Lynda Manard, Charlotte Mendoza & Terry Hampton re/ the Constitution, Wilson’s autographed photo & being a guest at “Sea World;” a letter from Southwestern College student Cheryl Rusch & Wilson reply (Nov.) re/ information to help her prepare a report on Ford and Chevrolet motor cars; letters (June-May) re/ “Library of Congress pamphlets for your citizenship class;” Wilson biography & booklet on “Our American Government” for Madison High senior Teri Alexander’s term paper; Wilson’s reply to 13 year old Mike Galpin (Mercer Island, WA) re/ autograph and booklet – Galpin hoped the Republicans would be victorious in November; Lakeside 8th grade student Ray Cotton receives documents on the government from Wilson & Lemon Grove students Steve & Ann Marie Lemire receive U.S. History documents they requested; letters (Mar.-Apr.) from San Diego students re/ copies of U.S. History documents, pamphlet on Medicare, Library of Congress letter re/ “Tie Vote in the Senate,” names & addresses of American Ambassadors to several countries, a list of members of the House and Senate, Civil Rights legislation, Wilson letter in reply to John Lovelace’s running for Student Body President & sending a copy of the 24th Amendment; letters (Mar-Apr.) from Chula Vista, El Cajon, La Mesa & Spring Valley students re/ philosophy, aims and programs of the Republican Party, floor plan for the sitting for the House, a copy of the Constitution for an 11th grade student, booklets on the government for Spring Valley Junior High students; letters (Jan.-Feb.) re/ students interested in information on foreign aid, Southeast Asia, the office of the presidency & the American Merchant Marine, Bolivia: letters (Jan.-Feb.) re/ 8th grade La Mesa students Linda Wallbenk, Vicky Mitchell, Richard Raynor, Kim Jahn & Carol Martin & 8th grade El Cajon student Elaine Levi request information on “our Government;” letters (Jan.) re/ National City student Von Ronn Goral is studying French & requests information from Wilson; letters (Jan.) re/ the 4th & 5th graders at Florence Elementary School study the Pledge of Allegiance, simplify its wording & request comments from Wilson & a photograph; letters (Jan.-Feb.) re/ San Diego students request information on government & World Affairs; letters (Feb.) re/ former San Diegan Richy A. Evans (Ft. Benning, Georgia) requests information on Government and a copy of the Congressional Record; a letter (12/6/62) from Donna McLaughlin Senior High School Student, York, PA & Wilson’s reply (1/9/63) re/ Miss York’s proposal to increase the House of Representative term in office from two to four years. This is a fascinating proposal, but Wilson points out some of the errors.
