Scope and Contents
Just a small number of letters in this folder: Examples are: a letter (3/62) from James R. Applegate (SP4 E4 Btry B, 1st TA Bn, 140th Arty, Fort Hood, Texas) to Congressman Wilson re/ “the unusual burden imposed on reservists from your constituency, recalled to active duty in the Army incident to the buildup of military strength last fall” and issue of over payment; stapled copies of letters (Mar. & Apr. ’62) from 3 other members of the 1st TA Bn, 140th Arty that are similar to the above with brief replies from Congressman Wilson; a stapled packet of letters (May-Apr. ’62) that are follow up communiques responding to the letters of concern noted above, especially “PFC Lou C. Hop, who is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, concerning an alleged overpayment for certain members of the Army who were ordered to active duty last year;” letters (June-July ’62) from Brig. Gen. Fred C. Weyand (Deputy Chief of Legislative Liaison, Dept. of the Army) and Congressman Wilson re/ clarification on PFC Hop and others “who received certain payments to which they were not entitled. ” General Weyand cited Section 4337(d) of Title 10 United States Code as a rejoinder.
