Scope and Contents
A collection of letters & telegrams: Examples are: letters (1/21 & 2/6/57) re/ Wilson responds to letters from Coronado Mayor Coleman M. Gray “pointing out the problem with respect to the existence of the National Guard Armory there in Coronado and proposing the construction of an Armory in Imperial Beach;” copies of letters (May-July 1957) re/ clarifying the Armory issue and indicating that Coronado did wish to have an Armory in their city. The present building should be located elsewhere; letters (1/26, 2/9 & 2/17/59) re/ clarification on the rumor that the California National Guard planned to construct an Armory in Linda Vista. Brig. Gen. Carl H. Aulick (Office of the Adjutant General, Calif.) indicated that “The California National Guard does not intend to do any construction in the San Diego area;” letters (Feb.-Mar. ’59) re/ proposed Army Reserve Center to be built in San Diego. The Army did not feel that the facility at Fort Rosecrans was adequate; a packet of letters and telegrams (Feb. ’57 to Apr. ’59) re/ active reservist Ed Cramer of Linda Vista disputes the need for a new Armory in San Diego, especially on land in Linda Vista, and Wilson disagrees.
