Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, a resolutions and statements: these are filed from April to October. Examples are: letters (3/27 & 4/8) re/ a copy of Lions International District Four Resolution passed in January in Las Vegas that indicated “Rules of the Road” be part of the Federal Highway program; letters (4/14 & 4/21) re/ Wilson responds to the concerns of Milton Hallen (Ex. Sec., S.D. Highway Assoc.) as to the Byrd Amendment’s potential to delay or hamper the Federal Highway Program; letters (5/6 & 5/11) re/ Wilson responds to constituent William Wallace as to the Byrd Amendment and the President’s suggestion about increasing the gas tax for the program; letters (Apr.-May) re/ the concerns of Rosco Hazard (R.E. Hazard Contracting Co.- Engineering and Contractors), a close friend of Wilson and a staunch political conservative; letters (5/26 & 6/6) & a copy of a Resolution (5/21/) from the California Highway Commission “relating to the construction of roads by Federal Agencies;” a letter (9/30) from Wilson to Charles V. Ferree (El Cajon Chamber of Commerce) and a “Copy of Resolution” dated 9/7/59 re/ the issue of vehicular traffic on U.S. Highway 80 through the city of El Cajon and the need to expedite freeway construction; 2 letters (10/6 & 10/12) re/ Senator Albert Gore sent Wilson copies of his recently released news statements on the Federal Highway Program - 11 pages legal size.
