Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, memos, news clippings, telegrams & government reports. Examples are: Stapled packet of corresp. (July-Sept. 1956) from Robert W. Burgess (Dir., Bureau of Census), Congressman Wilson, Harry M. Livingston (Disbursing Clerk, U.S. House of Representatives) & attached copies of Current Population Reports Special Censuses (Series P-28, Nos. 436, 437, 502, 533, & 873) re/ Wilson’s request for exact population total for his district—Coronado, San Diego, La Mesa, El Cajon & Chula Vista in Special Census records; 1 copy of Economic Research Bureau, San Diego Bulletin (Vol. 4, No. 4, April 1956); 1 large packet containing a letter (12/14/55) from John Smith (Mayor, City of Chula Vista) & Wilson’s reply (12/16/55) & attached copies of a “Resolution Unanimously Approved By Disfranchized Citizens and Homeowners of Imperial Beach-Palm City” (Witnessed 12/1/55) (7 pp.) & news clippings—“Plan Probe Is Sought” & “Board Asks Probe of Bay Annexation,” The San Diego Union (12/14/55) re/ “Chula Vista City Council, in regular session December 13, 1955, voted unanimously to transmit the enclosed resolution to your office . . . . [The San Diego City Council’s annexation decision] is not only undemocratic but threatens the autonomy of the entire South Bay area;” 1 news clipping “Our Reader’s Write- - - Macaulay Gives Views On Recent ‘Answers’” & “Self Government Group Files Additional Protests” (Vol. XXV, No. 51, 11/24/55), San Ysidro, CA; 1 small packet containing letters & a Western Union telegram (June-July 1955) from R.T. Chamber of Commerce) & Gardner E. Morse, Jr. (Publicity Dir., S.D. Convention and Tourist Bureau) re/ Mr. Limb’s “suggestion for the program director of the Voice of America’s operations as pertains to the release of material to French Radio Stations;” 1 letter (6/27/55) from J. L. Haugh, Wilson’s reply (7/7/55) & attached copy of “San Diego Transit System President J. L. Haugh Discusses Facts About the Proposed Fare Increase . . . a reprint . . . appearing in the May-June issue of Transit Topics” – In 1955 the transit system was “carrying about the same number of people as we did in 1940 when San Diego was less than half as big as it is today;” 1 small packet containing a letter (n.d.) from R. Chamber of Commerece) & E. F. Terrar, Jr.’s reply (11/10/53) re/ a copy enclosed of the first Bulletin of the Economic Research Bureau of San Diego (Oct. 1953); “Memo To: Jas. B. Utt and Bob Wilson Re Public Housing . . . .” from R.E. Hazard (6/3/53) re/ property owners, the federal government, postwar rentals & other investement issues in the Midway area of San Diego.
