A collection of letters, memos, news articles & telegrams. Examples are: Stapled packet of letters (Mar. 1959-Feb. 1960) from Congressman Wilson, Major General Ned D. Moore (Dir. of Personnel Policy, Office of the Asst. Sec. of Defense), Dale E. Medhurst (Manager, New Tower Theater, S.D.), T.P. Hunt-ington (Vogue Theather, C.V.), Capt. Carlton R. Fisher (Fisher Aircraft Co.), Capt. W. M. Collins (Commanding Officer, U.S. Naval Air Station, North Island), Brigadier General Robert H. Herman (HQ., Norton Air Force Base) & attached copies of “Report No. 739 [7/19/61] . . . authorizing the Secretary of a Military Department to sell goods and services to aircraft owners,” 87th Cong., 1st Sess. (9 pp.), H.R. 7728 In the Senate of the United States, August 8, 1961 . . . An Act To amend title 10, United States Code . . . . 87th Cong. 1st Sess (4 pp.), & Air Force Regulation No. 67-53, “Supply Sale of Aviation Fuel and Oil For Use in Contract, Charter and Civil Aircraft” (5 pp.) re/ extensive complaints from Mr. Fisher about government contract carriers purchasing “only Government fuel [thus] private industry fuel would have practically no market;” 1 small packet containing letters & 1 telegram (June-July 1962) from Congressman Wilson, PhilipW. John Crumpacker (Chief of Bureau, Bureau of Supplies & Accounts), & constituent Mel Tracy (retail milk delivery) re/ Mr. Tracy’s extensive complaints about government competition with the private sector, especially focusing on the Navy commissaries in San Diego; a packet containing letters (Ap.-June 1963) from Congressman Wilson, Nicholas deB. Katzenback (Deputy Attorney General, Justice Dept.), Joseph W. Shea (Secretary, FTC), Herbert E. Hoffman (Chief, Legislative and Legal Section, Dept. of Justice) & attached “News Release” (4/29/63) from the International Service Station Association re/ “Al Williams, Texaco Service Station Dealer, San Diego, California . . . announced today, ‘that a request was being sent to the United States Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission encourag-ing an official investigation into the retail gasoline price war now prevalent in San Diego County . . . .’ Mr. Williams asserted that ‘the 11th Naval District Post Exchange Service Stations and the Marince Corps Bases in, and near, San Diego, are . . . retailing gasoline below cost in violation of the California Unfair Practices Act, or violating the Federal Trade Commission Act by obtaining a rebate from major oil suppliers.’”
