A collection of letters, news clippings, Congressional testimony & reports. Examples are: Three letters (6/1 & 6/22/59) from Congressman Wilson & attached copy of a letter (6/12/59) from Ben H. Guill (Vice Chairman, Federal Maritime Board) & a copy of “Maritime Research and Development,” U.S. Dept. of Commerce, 1959 (14 pp.) re/Convair’s interest in participating “in any of the Maritime Admini-stration’s programs”—from 1956-1959, Maritime Research Funds totaled almost 8 million dollars to help improve “the U.S. merchant marine through science and technology;” 1 letter (6/16/59) from Congressman Wilson to Congressman Carl Vinson re/ a Convair brochure touting “the payload and range of the Convair 600, a remark-able new jet transport that should revolutionize medium range jet operations, both passenger and freight;” 1 letter (5/28/59) from Congressman Wilson and A.P. Higgins’ (Manager, Military Relations, Convair) reply (6/4/59) re/ “Questions About Japanese Air Defense Procurement” for Convair F102 & Gruman F11F & distributing copies of the Cargo Jet Airport brochure; 1 letter (5/19/59) from Roger D. Fuller (Hydrodynamics Group Engineer, Convair) to Congressman Wilson re/ Convair’s interest in Maritime Com-mission’s projects—such as a contract “to Gruman Aircraft Engineering Corporation for construction of a high-speed hydrofoil ship displacing 70 tons [or] a similar contract . . . let to Aerojet for nuclear powered cargo submarine development;” a copy of a “prepared statement by Mr. J.V. Naish, President, Convair Division of General Dynamics Corporation, before the Subcommittee for Special Investiga-tions, Committtee on Armed Services, House of Representatives, Washington, D.C., May 8, 1959” (21 pp. including photos and charts) re/ “how the Atlas program has developed, and the way in which we have participated in the weapon system management;” 1 letter (2/9/59) from Congressman Wilson, a response (2/16/59) from August C. Esenwein (Executive V.P., Convair) & an attached news clipping from the Evening Tribune (1/29/59) re/ Wilson’s congratulating Mr. Esenwein’s appoint-ment as Ex. V.P.; 2 news clippings from the The San Diego Union (2/5/59) re/ exchange in House Armed Services Committee between Defense Secretary Neil H. McElroy & Congressman Wilson on the merits of Atlas vs. Tritan ICBMs; 1 letter (1/27/59) from A.P. Higgins (Manager, PR, Convair) re/ Wilson’s recent visit to Convair to view the 880 Mockup & to discuss Convair’s brochures on Electronic Warfare Trainer & the Military Cargo Aircraft; 1 copy of San Diego Business (Vol. 26, No. 1, Jan. 1959); 1 copy of page a1 & a2 of The San Diego Union for Jan. 16, 1959 featuring a headline—“Convair Gets Revived Missile Defense Job – 2 1/2 – Million Award Renews Wizard Program of 1958.”
