Contents include: one letter (1/27/60) from Charles K. McWhorter (Legislative Asst. to the Vice President of the United States) & a letter from San Diego Mayor Charles C. Dail (1/15/60) notifying the Vice President that San Diego will host the 8th Inter-American Municpal Congress in October & indicating the need for logistic and financial assistance from the federal government and from non-profit foundations in hosting the 8th Congress; 3 official invitations to the 8th Congress and enclosed programs featuring the theme of the Congress—“A Case Study Approach To Municipal Government and Administration In the Americas;” a loose collection of papers indicating back-ground information on the Conference, number of persons estimated to be participating, planned tours in San Diego, local hotels, prices & registration forms & a “List of authors of papers which were written especially for presentation at the VIII Congress;” stapled copies of a variety of materials indicating planning for the conference, topics to be included, papers presented, discussants, functions of “several Citizens’ Committees,” listing of “Probable Delegates from Latin America,” & “Roster of Local Committees August 1, 1960;” a copy of a letter (8/26/60) from S.D. Mayor Dail to James G. Dunton (Dir., Office of Public Services, Office of the Sec. of Defense) re/ the San Diego hosting of the 8th Inter-American Municipal Congress & a request for assistance from local military authorities in general areas such as bus transportation, facilities to host luncheons & buffets, participation of Naval & Marine bands, etc.; a packet containing corresp. (Aug.- Oct. 1960) from Murray Snyder (Asst. Sec. of Defense), James G. Dunton (Dir., Office of Public Services, DOD), Congressman Wilson, William B. Macomber, Jr. ( Asst. Sec., Dept. of State), & S.D. Mayor Dail re/ DOD & Dept. of State qualified responses to Dail’s Aug. 26th requests for assistance; 1 letter (12/15/60) from S.D. Mayor Dail to Congressman Wilson expressing his “personnel appreciation” for Wilson’s “unstinting interest and effort” in helping make the 8th Municipal Congress a success.
