A collection of letters, telegrams, news clippings, & official evaluations & reports. Examples are: A small collection of letters (May-June 1955) from Congressman Wilson, T.M. Heggland (Chief Administrator, San Diego County), & J. Strawsen (Acting Commissioner of Public Hearings, G.S.A) re/ the projected depletion of income to the county tax rolls necessitated by G.S.A.’s acquisition of the Rohr Plant in Chula Vista from the War Assets Administration—Rohr Corporation had been under a 10 year lease from the Reconstruction Finance Corp & the Defense Plant Corp.; 2 copies of letters (7/11 & 7/12/55) from Congressman Wilson re/ information “pertinent to the proposed purchase by the Rohr Aircraft Corporation . . . of a facility from the General Services Administration;” 1 blue folder containing a copy of a “Summary of Particulars and Comments On the Appraisals of Frank H. Weller, L. Bruce Stallard and the American Appraisal Company” (12 pp.), a copy of a letter (7/2/57) from S.W. Shepard (Secretary, Rohr Aircraft Corp.) to Congressman Wilson, & a copy of the recent General Services Administration appraisal by their Public Buildings Service, “Valuation of Rohr Aircraft Corporation Chula Vista, California March 4, 1957” (45 pp., includes photo, maps & Addenda) re/ extensive coverage of Rohr’s projected purchase of the 29.26 acres, with 5 major buildings and 2 smaller bldgs., from the G.S.A.; 1 news clipping, “House Unit Deletes Carrier Wharf Fund 7.7 Million Voted Other Area Projects” & “D.M. Starr, Rohr Official, Dies At Age 57,” (The San Diego Union, 8/8/59); A small collection containing an office note, 2 letters & a Western Union telegram (July-Aug. 1960) from “Maggie,” Congressman Wilson, & Gene Gosch (Sec.-Mgr., Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce) re/ “two hundred prominent citizens of Chula Vista will honor Fred H. Rohr and four other founders of Rohr Aircraft Corporation as part of their Twentieth Anniversary Celebration.” Wilson was unable to attend as a speaker, but sent his congrats to Rohr and associates for their great success in the aircraft industry; a small packet of letters & 1 telegram (Jan. 1961) from Congressman Wilson, Fred H. Rohr (Chairman of the Bd., Rohr Aircraft Corp.), & Sol Williams (Business Rep., IAM Lodge 755, Chula Vista, Ca) re/ complaints about potential purchase of Japanese tools by Rohr Corp. & reconciliation of the issue between management and labor; 4 letters (2/61) from constituents & Wilson’s reply (2/61) re/ the controversy over Rohr Aircraft buying tools made in Japan; 2 letters (8/14 & 10/13/61) from Major General Perry M. Hoisington, II (Deputy Dir. Legislative Liaison, Dept. of the Air Force) re/ C-141 jet cargo aircraft contract to Lockheed Aircraft Corp. of Marietta, Georgia & sub-contract to Rohr Aircraft “for approximately $1,000,000 for the production of engine nacelle pylons for the first five C-141 aircraft;” 1 copy of a Jan. 17, 1962 notice of a “Contract Award” to Rohr Aircraft of $2,000,000 for the “Construction of 3 85-Foot diameter Parabolic Antanae System for Nimbus Weather Satellite Program;” 3 copies of letters (2/26, 9/17, & 9/23/63) from Edgar M. Gillenwaters (Wilson Admin. Asst.) & Congressman Wilson re/ comments on Armed Forces Com-mittee, RS-70, model of the Mercury Control to Smithsonian, & Senate Dept. of Defense Appropriation Bill, 1964; 1 copy of a letter (9/23/63) from Congressman Wilson to B.F. Raynes (Rohr Corp.) & attached copy of FAA Information, “63-81 WO7-380 1” “For Immediate Release” re/ “Six Companies To Submit Proposals In Supersonic Transport Development Program” & Wilson’s reminder to the Rohr Corp. of potential sub-contracts on this government assisted program; a small collection of letters (Oct.-Dec. 1963) from Congressman Wilson, Jim G. Akin (Congressional Liaison Officer, H.E.W.), & Thomas J. Fahey (Market Analysis & Planning Administrator, Rohr Corp.) re/ “possible additional usage of your automated computer and electronic data processing equipment” under the government “Training for a Job Under the Manpower Development and Training Act.”
