A collection of letters, telegrams, memos, news clippings, & other material. Examples are: A small packet containing telegrams & letters (May-June 1957) from Congressman Wilson, A.J. Sutherland (Pres., Security Trust & Savings Bank), Dr. Wilbur Chapman (Am. Tunaboat Assn.), & Mason Case (General Mgr., Fisherman’s Cooperative Assn.) re/ Anti-Dumping amendments, “getting the Fisheries Cooperative into the bank for Cooperatives” & other information on providing loans for Fisheries Cooperative Assn. through the Farm Credit Act of 1933; A small collection of letters (June 1957) from Congressman Wilson, Anderson Borthwick (Pres., The First National Bank), Ralph Phillips (Pres., San Diego Chamber of Commerce), & Joseph J. Madruga (Pres., Am. Tunaboat Assn.) re/ “bills to amend the Anti-Dumping Act;” 2 letters (7/15/57) from Joseph J. Madruga to Congressmen Wilson & Jere Cooper indicating he had sent the Chairman of the Committee of Ways and Means a 14 page letter on the subject of the dumping of Japanese frozen albacore in the U.S.; 1 letter (7/16/57) from W.M. Madruga (Pres., Am. Tunaboat Assn.), W.C. Jacobson ( Chairman, CA. Commission on Interstate Cooperation), & Congressman Wilson re/ information on the topic of the need for amending the Anti Dumping Act; 2 Western Union telegrams & 2 letters (July 1957) from E.F. Terrar, Jr. (Wilson’s Admin. Asst.), H.F. Cary (Genl. Mgr., Am. Tunaboat Assn.), & Leo H. Irwin (Clerk, Committee Ways and Means, House of Representatives) re/ Congressman Wilson & Harold Cary’s appearance before the Ways and Means Committee to testify on the amendments to the Anti Dumping Act; 1 letter (7/29/57) from W.G. Love (V.P., U.S. Holding Co.) & Wilson’s reply (8/2/57) re/ “Not long ago you tasted our latest, creation, Tunies. Mr. Smith wonders if we couldn’t serve them at lunch on a Friday in the Congressional dining room;” 1 copy of  “85th Congress, 1st Session A Bill To regulate the importation of tuna . . .  this act may be cited as the ‘Tuna Import Act of 1958’” (3 pp.); a collection of letters & 1 telegram (Aug., 1957) from Wilson’s constituents & copies of his replies re/ concerns over tuna imports from Japan; a letter (8/26/57) from Henry Mayers (Cunningham & Walsh, Inc.), Wilson’s reply (8/29/57) & enclosed Cunningham & Walsh Interoffice Memo (8/21/57) re/ a request to make a presentation for the Japanese-American Tuna advertising campaign; 1 letter (8/29/57) from constituent James Rufus Choate & Wilson’s reply (8/29/57) re/ Mr. Choate’s “forthright letter” on the tuna problem & U.S. foreign policy – “I am a Monroe Doctrine man, an Isolationist and a Pacificist as far as world meddling is concerned;” copies of letters (8/27 & 8/30/57) from Joseph J. Madruga to Secretary of State John Foster Dulles & to Congressmen C.S. Oulicky (Sec. to Congress-man Maillard, 4th Dist., CA) re/ “the tragic plight of the West coast tuna & albacore fishermen” – these letters were forwarded to Congressman Wilson; 2 letters (9/9/57) from Congressman Wilson to President Eisenhower & to C. Arnholt Smith (Pres., U.S. National Bank), & President Eisenhower’s reply to Wilson re/ “San Diego’s leading Republican . . . expresses his deep concern over the future of the tuna industry;” 1 letter (9/6/57 from Pete Zounes (Zounes Meat Farms), E.F. Terrar, Jr.’s reply (9/19/57) & enclosed copies of news clippings – “Tunies, Inc. May Buy Zounes Plant,” Chula Vista Star News (9/5/57) & “Tuna Process Plant Gets OK” (n.s., n.d.) re/ competition with Japanese imports for the U.S. market;” 1 copy of “Report of the Secretary of the Treasury to the Congress on the Operations and Effectiveness of Antidumping Act and on Amendments to the Act Considered Desirable or Necessary” (n.d., 29 pp. & Annex A through Annex E); 1 fifteen page letter (9/4/57) from Wilbur M. Chapman (Dir. of Research, Am. Tunaboat Assn.) to William Farrar (Federated Fishermen’s Assn., Inc.) re/ “answers to several questions you raised respecting the probable effects of H.R. 9237, the Tuna Import Act of 1958, upon the domestic tuna industry;” 1 letter (10/3/57) from Douglas R. Giddings (Attorney at Law) & E.F. Terrar Jr.’s reply (10/14/57) re/ discussion on the Reciprocal Trade Act & concern about declining numbers of tuna clippers as part of national defense auxiliary ships; 1 letter (9/24/57) from constituent Edward Doyle & E.F. Dail to Senators Knowland & Kuchel, attached copy of Resolution No. 143439 & Congressman Wilson’s reply to Mayor Dail (10/28/57) re/ a S.D. City Council resolution passed Oct. 15, 1957 endorsing & supporting the “Tuna Import Act of 1958;” a small packet of letters (Oct. 1957) from Charles R. Carry (Ex. Arnholt Smith (Pres., U.S. National Bank) & attached copies of Tuna Research Foundation statistical & other information re/ discussion on results of Fisheries and Wildlife Act of 1956; a packet of corresp.
