A small collection of letters (Sept. 1954 - Ap. 1955) from C.R. Schroeder, D.V.M. (Managing Dir., S.D. Zoological Society), F.S. Low (Western Sea Frontier, Treasure Island, San Francisco), W.M. Mann (Dir., National Zoological Park, Smithsonian Institution) & E.F. Terrar, Jr. (Wilson’s Admin. Asst.) re/ negotiations to transport two young walruses from Alaska to San Diego & the attempts to acquire Emperor penquins from the National Zoological Park which had recently been acquired from the Antarctic; 1 letter (2/8/56) from George H. Pournelle (Curator of Mammals, San Diego Zoological Gardens) & Congressman Wilson’s reply (2/13/56) re/ trade trans-actions with the Surbaya Zoo, Indonesia, to receive “the first Proboscis monkeys every [sic] exhibited alive in the United States . . . .” And an interest in “negotiating with the Moscow zoo and the Prague zoo for exchange of animals from behind the iron curtain.”
