Scope and Contents
A small collection of correspondence as follows: A packet containing extensive corresp. (June – Oct. 1960) from Congressman Wilson, PFC Bruce Callaway (U.S. Army), Virginia Nickalson (Clerk, S.D. Local Board 141), E. H. Keeley (Asst. Chief, Manpower Div., CA Selective Service System), Lt. General Leonard D. Heaton (The Surgeon General of the Army), Lt. Col. Verne L. Bowers (Chief of Legislative Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Army), & General Lewis B. Hersey (Dir., Selective Service System) re/ PFC Callaway’s attempts to prove that he was “erroneously inducted” into the U.S. Army; 1 office note (6/10/60) from Maggie & a “Memorandum RE Gilbert Revilla” (n.d.) re/ Congressman Hiestand requested deferment for a foreman of a granite quarry because his induction might cause the quarry to shut down; a small collection of letters (Aug.-Sept. 1960) from Congressman Wilson, Edward D. Dowling (Convair), General Lewis B. Hershey, & Leon W. Parma (Wilson’s Admin. Asst.) re/ Mr. Dowling’s success in obtaining permission from his draft board to leave the country to attend a special training center for Experimental Aerodynamics at Rhode-St. Genese, Belgium.
