Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, a government handbook and office note: these are filed from August back to January. Examples are: La Mesa constituent Thomas H. McCurdey is assisted by Wilson in terms of disability benefits. He needed more quarters, but was eligible at 61 for reduced Social Security payments; letters (Aug.-Apr.) re/ Virgil C. Fee’s disability claim was denied but he was eligible for old age and survivors benefits. His praise for Wilson as a Congressman and some local history is also part this group of letters; letters (Aug.-July) re/ responses to an inquiry from constituent Jerry S. Denison that discuss a lump-sum death benefit, but not for the survivor; a letter (8/14/61) from the Engineers and Architects Association to Wilson urging his support to permit governmental and civil service employees to participate in the federal Social Security program in the same manner as self-employed individuals; letters (Aug.-July) re/ disappointment of constituent Mrs. Alice G. Agard that the 1961 amendments to the Social Security Act did not increase benefits to the maximum for all; a copy of the Supplement To Social Security Handbook on Old-Age Survivors and Disability Insurance, 25 pages; letters (11/60-7/61) re/ Chula Vista constituent William H. Hartman does not qualify for disability insurance benefits; stapled packet of corresp. (July-Jan. ’61) re/ a complicated narrative for La Jolla constituent William M. Loeltez; letters (6/6, 7/6 & 7/10) re/ eligibility for disability insurance benefits for La Mesa constituent Mrs. Mariann D. Patten and her daughter Robann ($99 + $49.50); letters (June-May) re/ an example of “a comedy of errors” that resulted from a typist error at HEW; stapled packet of corresp. (10/60 – 6/61) re/ another complicated narrative involving Chula Vista constituent Earl R. Hill, attempts to obtain benefits for his wife and Wilson’s patient assistance.
