Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, a news clipping and office notes. These are filed in random fashion and include items from 1960. Examples are: letters (5/20 & 5/24) re/ a plaintive plea from Chula Vista constituent Helen Wansik as to “Our Country gives help to people all over the world but they Don’t care for the old people here;” letters (Apr.-May ’61) re/ San Diego constituent Mrs. Fay C. Smith did not earn enough calendar quarters after 1950 to qualify for more monthly payments; letters (Mar. & Apr. ’61) re/ R. A. Mergan, a former self employed druggist now 65 of an all Republican family, appreciates Wilson’s assistance, even though he did not qualify for old age benefits. He raises the issue of old age assistance for those who do not qualify with enough calendar quarters; letters (Feb.-May ’61) re/ San Diego constituent 76 year old Victor F. Rehberg had an interesting employment record as an electrician going back to 1906 and Wilson helped him achieve an increase in his monthly benefit from $62 to $74; letters (4/23 & 5/1/61) re/ brief constituent comments on recently passed Social Security Act; letters (Jan-Apr. ’61) re/ Lakeside constituent Thomas Jefferson Boyd, his problems of being totally disabled and efforts to obtain an increase in benefits; letters (Mar.-Apr. ’61) re/ S.D. constituent Mrs. Edna M. Webb and the problems she had dealing with her husband’s Social Security checks because of her bank’s obstancy; letters (4/61) re/ another example of the problems faced by a disabled person who did not qualify for benefits; letters (Feb.-Apr.’61) re/ Mrs. Frank Jullion is assisted by Wilson in obtaining disability benefits of $119 a month for her husband; letters (Mar.-Apr. ’61) re/ Chula Vista constituent Samuel K. Wilson, Sr. is approved for monthly disability benefits with Congressman Wilson’s assistance; letters & news clipping, Thomas Collins, “The Golden Years - Illness Expenses Can Be ‘Trap’” (8/60-3/61) re/ WWI veteran La Mesa constituent Robert W. Carter’s several letters indicate his medical problems and the need for assistance since he had not yet reached 65; letters (Feb.-Mar. ’61) re/ Campo constituent B. E. MacArthur asks Wilson to assist in obtaining disability benefits for his wife Rose, unfortunately she lacked the 20 calendar quarters; letters (Feb.-Mar.) re/ Bill Young (Ball Insurance Agency, S.D.) helps Social Security client Henry George Rimoldi and praises Wilson as “someone ‘on our side’ [and] is “looking forward to Richard Nixon coming to San Diego;” letters (10/60 – 3/61) re/ another example of the complicated process of qualifying for disability benefits; letters (10/60-3/61) re/ an extensive amount of correspondence related to the claims of San Diego constituent Arthur D. Ruppel – “I truly believe that if you submit this case to a person in higher administrative authority that you will learn of many other instances of inequality within the framework of the law;” office note and two letters (11/61) re/ Wilson letters to Chairman Wilbur Mills and El Cajon constituent Mrs. Olive L. Pryor.
