Scope and Contents
A collection of letters and office notes: these are filed from April to January, but include items form 1991. Examples are: letters (Apr.-Jan.) re/ National City constituent Eldon W. Cruggs, at the suggestion of Mrs. McCormick of the Republican Women’s Committee of San Diego, asked for Wilson’s assistance in applying for Social Security Disability. Cruggs campaigned for Wilson and the Congressman aided Cruggs in receiving disability for himself, his wife and daughter; letters (Apr.-Feb.) re/ S.D. constituent B. H. Haddock was successful in getting a settlement from the Social Security Administration – “My wife and I thank you for your very fine cooperation;” letters & office note from Marge (Feb.) re/ unemployment insurance - “This girl misrepresented this case to us. Anyhow I was able to get her checks sent and the case is closed;” letters (Mar.-Apr.) re/ responses to inquiry by Lakeside constituent Mrs. B. E. Tickner as to Railroad Retirement Bd. and the Social Security Administration benefits; letters (3/19 & 3/27) re/ Wilson responds to query from La Mesan Mrs. Laura B. Littlefield “concerning her social security problem;” letters & note (11/61-2/62) re/ responses to query from Chula Vista constituent Mrs. Emil S. Peck, Jr. “about disability benefits on husband’s social security account;” letters (Feb.-Mar.) re/ inquiry from Richard J. Kendal was responded to by Wilson about social security laws. Kendal indicated he wished “you and your brother the very best of luck in the election ahead of us this year, and you can rely on me to do my little bit to help you;” letters (Mar.-Apr.) re/ Miss Mary E. Delapp’s inquiry as to the problem of working while drawing social security and the deductions made; letters (1/61-2/62) re/ complications related to drawing social security benefits for constituent Mrs. Bessie Jacobs; letters (1/29 & 2/14/62) re/ Wilson replies to concerns about current social security legislation reducing the age requirements for widows eligible for benefits and thanks Mrs. Betty Morgenkoff “for all you are doing there to help the Republican cause;” letters (12/61-2/62) re/ responses to constituent C. C. Eckman’s concern about inequality in payments based on the current law; stapled packet of letters (11/61-2/62) including 5 page copy of “Hearing Examiner’s Decision” related to Santee constituents Mr. & Mrs. Earl G. Birdwell – Wilson indicated “We were all pleased to learn that the Union approved your husband’s retirement insurance payments;” letters (11/91-2/92) re/ Chula Vista constituent Mrs. Catherine Winters sought widow benefits and assistance from County welfare to meet living costs; Chula Vistan Jay H. Wagner sought survivor’s benefits for his deceased mother, but being over 18 was denied; letters (1/92) re/ Lakeside constituent H. W. Long worked during 1960 so received overpayment on benefits;
