Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, telegrams, an envelope, a periodical excerpt and office notes: these are filed from March 1963 back to March1962. Examples are: letters (3/19 & 3/26/63) and an envelope re/ Wilson indicated that S.D. constituents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gaeta had received their check “and it was my pleasure to assist you;” letters (Feb.-Mar) re/ Congressmen Wilson and Wilbur Mills sent letters to Leo A. Schilke in response to an inquiry about legislation making it easier to apply for disability benefits; letters & telegram (2/63-6/62) re/ Wilson confirmed that constituent Clyde B. Belden was eligible for disability benefits; letters (2/63-10/62) re/ William E. Sanders’ appeal concerning disability was denied; a stapled packet of extensive correspondence, including a “Hearing Examiner’s Decision” re/ the case of Ethyle J. Rapalyea of National City for “Period of Disability and/or Disability Insurance Benefits – Wilson’s 1/24/63 letter indicated an unfavorable decision; letters & item form The Journal of Insurance Information (Jan.-Feb. 1963) re/ “ ‘Offset’ Needs Your Support” article is sent to Wilson constituent and friend E. L. Flood, Jr. of the Willis H. Fletcher Company – Flood also indicated he was having lunch with Leon to discuss our proposed Mortgage Loan Company; letters and telegram (1/63 – 2/62) re/ El Cajon constituent Verlyn L. Wumkes thanked Wilson “for everything you have done for me. I want you to know I appreciate all of your time and assistance you have given me,” as an Epileptic, the $95 he will receive only partly covered what he and his family needed; letters (1/63-12/62) re/ Scott Memorial Baptish Church Reverend Jerry G. Riffe’s complaints about the “Dirty Deal” he had received over Social Security taxes paid as the Youth Pastor. Tim F. LaHaye was the Pastor; letters (1/63 – 3/62) re/ Mrs. Elizabeth J. Brockman sought Wilson’s assistance in her application to help her daughter, Mary M. Brockman, who was handicapped. Wilson’s January letter indicated their lack of success; letters (1/63-12/62) re/ Wilson assists Mrs. Katherine L. Brennan (Jacumba), and newly widowed, receive Social Security assistance; letters and office notes (12/62-10/62) re/ assistance to Mrs. Ruby L. Parker’s disability claim. She did not have enough quarters (about 5 years) to sustain a claim.
