Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, news clippings, memos and office notes: these are filed from December 1964 back to October 1963. Examples are: letters & application form for Social Security (12/64-12/63) re/ Miss Kathleen Marsh receives confirmation from Wilson for her claim of $112 monthly disability benefits; letters (10/26 & 11/6/64) re/ Wilson responds to a letter from the Reverend Richard Z. Meyer (Prince of Peace Lutheran Church) about H.R, 11865 amended to exclude the Amish from paying Social Security; letters & memo (11/30 & 9/21/64) re/ H.R. 11865 is now in committee & Wilson responds to queries from constituent Edgar Paris; letters (12/1 & 11/18/64) re/ the sad circumstances for a 52 year old multiple sclerosis victim and then need for alteration in Social Security legislation to assist people like her; copy of a critical letter (12/8/64) from W.E. Compere, Jr. M.D. of La Mesa to J.L. Fay (Div. of Accounting Operations, HEW, Soc. Security Admin.) re/ information about Mrs. Stewart’s earnings; letters (11/16 & 11/4/64) attached news clipping featuring Fulton Lewis Jr. “Amish to Be Harassed Again,” San Diego Union, Oct.18, 1964 re/ Mrs. Marian Henderson sends the clipping and congratulates Wilson on his reelection but “Condolences to the Republican Party;” letters (Oct.-Nov. ’64) re/ Wilson and House Committee asst. chief counsel John Martin respond to inquiry from widow Mrs. Lola M. Steele about refund of contributions in certain circumstances; letters (Oct.-Sept. ’64) re/ inquiry from Chula Vista constituent Ross A. Baker about his deceased wife’s social securityTen; letters (9/64) re/ response to query from El Cajon constituent Gilbert Teinnies “concerning the inability if a wife to receive Social Security benefits in her own right and through her husband’s entitlement;”
