Vollmer; letter (4/29) from Wm. D. Buck & Albert E. Albertoni (International Assoc. of Fire Fighters) to Wilson re/ “Since the House of Representatives has passed H.R. 7775, we wish to take this opportunity to express . . . our sincere thanks for your participation in maintaining the exclusion clause in the our Social Security Law” - they supported “the formation of Pension Systems designed to meet the needs of our profession;” a letter (5/14/65) from Commissioner Robert M. Ball to Wilson re/ I am enclosing a copy of our recent booklet, “Answers To A Woman’s Questions About Social Security” – 31 pages; letters & news clipping (Apr. – May) re/ Wilson and Commissioner Ball respond to an inquiry from James O. Pike (President, Freedoms Foundation of San Diego) as to “the amount of money sent to the 200,000 recipients who live abroad;” letters (May-June ‘65) re/ responses to Mrs. Vivian Evans’ query about not receiving widow benefits before 62 unless she has the care if a child; letters (Apr.-May ’65) re/ Wilson and the Social Security administration respond to a critical view of Social Security from A. Widner – she wanted just “facts” not “propaganda;” letters (June & Aug.’65) re/ Wilson and the House Ways and Means Committee respond to Mrs. Hope Reinbold inquiry concerning widow benefits and being “appalled at the deprivation and insecurity of middle aged women” living in San Diego; letters (May & June ‘65) re/ the disability case of Daniel K. Koch, who was unsuccessful in receiving assistance at age 61, but Social Security could help; a large packet of correspondence (4/64 – 9/65) re/ the problems of Deward B. Hohnstein in obtaining disability benefits; letters (8/65-10/65) re/ responses to Edwin R. Storm’s claim for disability benefits did not prevail under current “Social Security Law” but he could see if “entitled to benefits under the new amendments of 1965;” Memo To Boss From Ed (9/30/65) attachments: “Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Program and Health Insurance Program for the Aged as Modified or Established by the Social Security Amendments of 1965” and “Selected Estimates of the Short-Range Effect of the Social Security Amendments, by State;” letters (Sept.-Oct. ’65) re/ Mrs. Ruth M. This indicated a contradiction in the current law, because when you turn 65 you receive a check for that month, yet when you die within the month of payment your check is cancelled; letters (Sept.-Oct. ’65) re/ San Diego constituent Basil G. McElroy receives responses to his concerns about “inequities in the Social Security laws” for those “who retired from the armed forces prior to 1 January 1957;” letter (10/29/65) from Commissioner of Social Security Robert M.
