Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, memos, memorandum, telegrams, office notes, speeches & other items: these are filed from March to September 1965. These follow the patterns and commentaries noted in folder 2. Examples are: stapled packet containing telegram, notes, memos, letters and a brief bio & photo of Wilson (11/64-3/65) re/ after much planning, Wilson’s Armed Forces Hearings cancelled his plans to attend the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics in San Diego in March; office note (3/10) re/ request to have Wilson address the National Chamber of Commerce and talk about the 1966 elections; 12 page copy of Wilson’s planned speech to the AIAA/USN Marine Systems and ASW Conference as presented by Col. T. R. Gillenwaters; letters (3/18 & 23/65) re/ the co-chairman of the AIAA, etc, conference thanks Wilson for the speech given by Col. Gillenwaters; a thank you letter and envelope (3/18) from friend Judith Michael Layne re/ Wilson’s speech in Muncie, Indiana; letter (3/23) from Will Parker (Chairman, Republican Central Committee) re/ thanking Wilson for his speech at Muncie, Indiana; copy of 6 page speech by Congressman Gerald Ford before the National Press Club, March 24, 1965; letter (4/29) re/ thanking Wilson for his speech before the Republican Central Committee of San Diego County – 76th Assembly District Convention – on April 24th; copy of letter (3/6) from Edgar M. Gillenwaters (Wilson’s Admin. Asst.) to Florence Eerebout (San Diego Realty Bd.) re/ “Bob asked ask the NATO team . . . that travels around the country to brief business groups on NATO’s operations;” letter (5/20) from Gillenwaters to Erebout re/ attempt to recover Congressman Harvey’s speech which he left with the Reality Board; stapled packet of letters & copy of San Diego Realtor (Vol. 40, No. 1, May 24, 1965) re/ discussion of the Reality Board’s Political Affairs Committee; letters (6/10 & 17) re/ the Navy Wives Clubs of America express the club’s gratitude for Wilson’s courtesy in greeting them at the Regional Meeting aboard the Naval Training Center in San Diego; letters (Apr.-May) re/ Wilson was looking forward to addressing the San Diego Junior Chamber of Commerce in late June; letters (Mar.-June) re/ planning for Wilson’s speech in San Diego on June 25th at the 6th annual Western Conference of Foundations for Medical Care on the topic “The Road to Socialized Medicine”). AMPAC – the American Medical Political Action Committee helped organize this; letter (6/29) re/ Milo A. Youel, M.D. (Orthopedic Specialists’ Group) thanks Wilson for his appearance at the conference; letters (July-Aug.) re/planning for a Wilson speech in San Diego before the AT&T management group; letter (7/26 & 8/1) re/ positive acclaim for Wilson’s speech before the NAEA-CNAEA convention in San Diego; a letter (8/17) from the Republican National Finance Committee to Wilson requesting his speech at one of the 75th Eisenhower dinners they were sponsoring. letters (July & Aug.) re/ conservative politics, animosity against LBJ “forcing socialism on the entire nation through the current Congressional imbalance favoring Democrats,” and Wilson’s planned appearance at the Chula Vista Rotary Club; letters, memo and office note (June & Aug.) re/ Wilson tentatively accepts the invitation for the September 11, 79th Assembly District Seminar; letters (8/11 & 27/65) re/ invite to address the San Jose State College Young Republicans, they had over 150 members; letters (9/7 & 16/65) re/ the Union-Tribune Publishing Co. sent a personal copy to Wilson of their Digest of 1965 INAE/CNAEA Summer Conference – “You will notice your talk is covered on page 89 – including that ‘good looking” picture you sent;” letters (9/21) re/ “This will confirm your assignment to be the speaker at the ‘Happy Birthday, IKE’ Dinners in Alaska;” letters (9/13 & 9/22), “1965-1966 Academic Year Information Sheet for guests of the Villanova Political Union” & pamphlet re/ other commitments provided Wilson from accepting the invitation to address one of the Villanova Political Union 1965-1966 meetings; letters (8/25& & 9/23) & pamphlet re/ an invitation by the PA Political Associates before the Clark County Republican Central Committee in Las Vegas; letters (Aug. & Sept.) re/ the Military Order of the World Wars California Dept. was delighted to receive Wilson’s acceptance to speak at the November Meeting of the Cajon Valley Chapter of MOWW. They also invited Mrs. Wilson to attend; letters (11/64 – 9/65) re/ planning for Wilson to address the Lions Club of San Diego, especially about the Coronado Bridge controversy; a copy of the Special GOP-Alabama Jubilee issue of The Alabama Republican (Oct. ’65); a letter (9/29/65) from John P. Roche (President, American Iron and Steel Institute) to Wilson re/ thank you for Wilson’s discussion of 1966; letters (Aug.-Sept. ’65) re/ further coverage of Wilson’s planned talk to Caltech Young Republicans on the subject: “Does America Need a Rubber Stamp Congress?”(see Folder 2 for similar letter); letter (9/28/65) from William G. Whyte (V.P, United States Steel Corp.) to Wilson re/ “I always knew it but today you reassured me that you are a great salesman! You told a convincing story;” letters (Aug.-Sept.’65) re/ invitation from Chula Vista constituent David I. Epstein (D.M.D.) to address Epstein’s medical and dental Reserve Unit in December – also note family and personal information in these letters .
