Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, booklets & resolutions; these are filed from March to June, 1963. Examples are: letters (3/11 & 3/21) & resolutions re/ copies of Assembly Joint Resolutions 3 and 19 re/ Edwards Air Force Base and securing a site in Southern California for a national cemetery; letters (4/10 & 24) re/ San Diego constituents Mr. & Mrs. Harold Mahan request Wilson to vote for CA Senate Bill 845 – “The Sunday Selling Law” – he reminded them that this was outside his jurisdiction; letters (April) & resolutions re/ copies of Assembly Joint Resolution 7, 13 and 14 and Senate Joint Resolution 5; a copy of the 1963 Roster of State and County Officials State of California Holding Office January 7, 1963; a letter (4/11) and attached copy of the 47th biennial report of the California Department of Fish and Game – 65 pages; a letter (4/29) & a resolution re/ a copy of the CA State Board of Public Health’s resolution supporting passage of H.R. 3386 – a bill to assist states in meeting the population’s needs in the field of mental retardation, maternal and child health and crippled children’s service programs; letters and office notes (April) re/ Local 506 UAW, because “of economic conditions in this area . . . urgently requested that a surplus food distribution plan be installed for the unemployed, indigent, and welfare recipients of San Diego city and county” – Wilson reminded the Local that the County had never applied for this assistance and the local community had to develop the financial means to support it; 6 stapled packets of letters and resolutions (May) re/ Assembly Joint Resolutions 26,32,39, 29 & 31 and Senate Joint Resolutions Nos. 21, 24, 105 & 12; letters & Memorandum (April & May) re/ Doug M. Smiley (Bowie, Maryland) & his interest in a CA law related to the tax structure of golf courses; letters (May) re/ a corporal with 3rd Marine Division will be overseas when his driver’s license expires and Wilson sent him the address of the DMV in Sacramento; letters & envelop (May) re/ a constituent’s application for veteran’s exemption and Wilson’s reminder that this was out of his jurisdiction; letters (5/3 & 13) and a copy of S. 1275 re/ CA Attorney General Stanley Mosk’s letter “To the Senators and Representatives of California in the United States Congress” in support of S. 1275 which would address a number of water rights issues; letters (4/19 & 5/2) re/ S.D. constituent Miss Joyce Stringer urges Wilson to support the State Legislature’s proposal to ban capital punishment; stapled copies of letters (May & June) and resolutions re/ Senate Joint Resolutions Nos. 2, 6, 14 & 23 and Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 61.
