Scope and Contents

A large collection of letters, resolutions, newsletters, post cards, government printings, promotional items and a telegram: except for one letter dated 12/30/63 these filed from April back to January. Examples are: letters (Apr. & Mar.) and copies of CA resolutions re/ Senate Joint Resolutions Nos. 8, 9, & 4 and CA Assembly Joint Resolution No. 15; a post card from constituent M. Martin & Wilson’s reply (Apr.) re/ Assembly Bill 91, over which Wilson had no jurisdiction; letters (Mar.-Apr.) re/ Wilson assisted constituent Mrs. Bessie C. Jacobs as to her previous residence in Illinois and a problem with their Unemployment Dept.; letters (3/25 & 4/5) re/ the Executive Director of the CA State Bd. of Agriculture sent Wilson a copy of “Seasonal Labor in California Agriculture;” letters (3/27 & 4/2) and attached copy of Assembly Daily Journal for March 26, 1963; promotional literature (Apr.) re/ a “Liberty Rally” in Santa Ana for the Liberty Amendment and a “Call for Action” statement from the Orange County Committee for Economic Freedom to support Assembly Joint Resolution 16; letters (2/28 & 3/20) re/ Coronado constituent Walter Vincent Collins, Jr.’s concern about the high rate of taxes collected from CA residents; letters (Feb.-Mar.) re/ three constituents write Wilson about issues such as recovering from the federal government the expenses of Senator Fisher’s trip to Chile, ideas for the formation of a Contractor’s School and a promotional statement from California Escort Tours; a copy of Supplement to Statement of Vote for November 6, 1962, General Election, compiled by CA Secretary of State Frank M. Jordon, 1/1/63 (72 pages); letters (3/1 & 7) & a copies of Assembly Joint Resolutions No. 11 and 12; letters (Jan.-Feb.) re/ Wilson helps constituent A. T. Stonehouse obtain information from the Library of Congress concerning an “inquiry with respect to National Banks exemption from auto registration fee payment;” letters (2/23 & 27) re/ a retired nurse and S.D. constituent Mrs. A. Mills has problems with City and State officials, Wilson referred her to appropriate local officials; letters (Feb.) and a copy of Assembly Joint Resolution 2 ; letters (2/11 & 19) and a copy of Alan Cranston (State Controller), Annual Report of Financial Transactions Concerning Counties of California Fiscal Year 1961-62 (59 pages) re/ Richard Nevins (State Bd. of Equalization) sent Wilson this copy; letters (Jan.-Feb.) re/ constituent problems with issues such as: the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, a veteran’s problems with the State Employment office, “a pipeline extending from Northern California to San Diego and “the issuance of pensions checks by the State of California Welfare Department;” letters (Dec.’62 & Jan. ‘63) re/ constituent problems with issues such as: a San Diegan since 1918 needs assistance from the Welfare Dept., a serious adoption issue for the parents with the Welfare Dept., and the extradition of a husband to Kansas and his wife’s plea to Wilson for advice and assistance, since she has five children; letters & notes (Dec.’62 & Jan. ’63) re/ a booklet was sent to Wilson but maps were not available from the CA Sec. of State; a 4 page copy of The Sacramento Newsletter (1/31/6) re/ State Senate & Assembly Standing Committees; a telegram (1/9/63) from Governor Edmund G. Brown to Wilson re/ “I strongly urge California Congressmen to join in a bipartisan support of the proposal to maintain the House Rules Committee Membership at15. President Kennedy’s legislative program, much of it of great importance to California, would be endangered by a return to a 12-man committee. Arbitrary and dictatorial rule by the chairman of the committee threatens the Democratic process in Congress.”
