Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, telegrams and advertisements. Examples are: letters (12/55-3/56) re/ concerns about tax cuts from San Diego Naval Lodge No. 726 (IAM) and responses from the IRS and Wilson; letters (5/7 & 5/28/56 re/ Mrs. David L. Monroe’s 1950 Income Tax returns; letters (5/4 & 5/9/56) re/ Mrs. Henry S. Reynolds of Ramona complains about taxes on capital gains and Wilson responds with citations from court cases; letters (6/22 & 7/18/56) re/ constituent Robert R. Shanks’s nine page conservative attack on the federal withholding tax and other programs and Wilson’s two page response; letters (7/26 & 8/2/56) re/ a brief discussion on H.R. 9875 and 9875 and the comments from the Palisade Garden Enterprise - an ice skating facility on University Avenue stresses that is a participating sport that should appeal to the President’s concern that more people should become active – wants fair tax treatment; letters and telegrams (Aug. & Sept./55) re/ Wilson’s concern that he has not received a reply from the IRS about his constituents’ complaints about the need to expedite their tax returns; letters & promotional material (9/55) re/ Wilson responds to the complaint from the Reverend Rolland C. Stone (First Presbyterian Church, El Cajon) about the tax loopholds in our federal tax system – such as Capital Gains - and sent Wilson copies of the promotional advertisements illustrating this.
