Scope and Contents
A collection of letters and a copy of 85th Cong., 1st Session, Union Calendar No. 262 H.R. 8381 [Report No. 775] . . . June 26 and July 9, 1957 “To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 to correct unintended benefits and hardships . . . .” The letters are as follows: Jan. 1 & 10, 1958 re/ The California State Chamber of Commerce while concerned about national defense indicated that the public clamor to compete with the Russians should not be used as a cloak for increases Federal spending; a letter (1/15/58) from the California State Chamber of Commerce re/ their opposition to an amendment to Section 17 of the Internal Revenue Code (H.R. 8381) which would undercut community –property credits; letters (2/13 & 2/28/58) re/ California Assemblyman Frank Luckel who was also retired Captain from the United States Navy requested Wilson to have his new administrative assistant Leon W. Parma (who replaced Ed Terrar) look into legislation that Wilson had helped past “a couple of years ago which reduced the income tax on military personnel.” Would it apply to retired officers?
