Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, promotional pamphlet, bulletin, office notes & other items: these are filed in chronological order from January to September and follow the previous folder pattern of constituent, Wilson, Treasury Dept. & other government communication. Examples and topics are: letter (1/22) from the United States Overseas Airlines, Inc. and a schedule of payments re/ being taxed unfairly by the Los Angeles county tax authorities; a letter (2/17) from W. B. Hage, Jr. (Hage’s – Division of Foremost Dairies, Inc.) & Wilson’s reply (2/34) re/ need for corrective legislation on the “Co-Operative Taxation question;” letters (11/58-2/60), a pamphlet “Censorship By Taxation” & an Investors League Bulletin (1/6/60) re/ taxing utilities; letters (3/60) re/ “The report is that Sergeant York is being harassed over tax payments” & the IRS reply that there was “no truth to the allegation;” letters (3/60) re/ the Carnation Company wants legislation that will tax cooperatives; letters (3 & 5/60) & “A Resolution” from the Two-Time Veterans Assoc. re/ tax exemptions for veterans of two or more wars who reach 60; letters & office notes (5 & 6/60) re/ complaints about tax exemption of properties for church homes; letters (7 & 8/60) re/ responses to Miss Robley Baskerville’s difficulties encountered in securing an employer’s payroll tax return; letters (3/59-8/60) re/ San Diego constituent Mrs. M. Celeste Bullard’s complaints about IRS & State of California audits for a 53 year old “in the low bracket of $5000.00 to $5500.00 is carrying things too far;” a letter (9/12/60)from the City of San Diego to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue re/ “Taxation of interest on municipal securities in the hands of insurance companies is contrary to the intent of Congress” and other issues; a letter (9/8/60) from Governor Edmund Brown & Wilson’s reply (9/28/60) re/ Brown urged the present tax immunity and interest on state and local securities be maintained.
