Scope and Contents

A collection of letters and other items (March – July) indicating the various problems regarding income taxes. Examples are: letters (1961-62) from Mrs. Lee Neuman (S.D.), Wilson & IRS re/ her tax return; letters (Jan.-Feb.) from Mrs. Florence M. Cray, Wilson & IRS re/ misinformation from IRS; letters from J. L. Tressel (Coronado, Tax Savings for the Small Investor), Wilson & IRS re/ issues affecting low-income tax payers; information on the new tax bill re/ 7% tax credit and withholding on interest and dividends from the Committee on Ways and Means; Resolution from the City of Mountain View re/ opposing the proposed legislation to remove Tax Exempt status of Municipal Bonds; letters re/ several issues – H.R. 10650 (withholding system), imposition of income tax on service personnel, income tax refund, stapled packet of corresp. for Jane C. Sincock (S.D.) including her 1954 1040 Income Tax Return ; Dear Colleague letter re/ Administration tax bill that place burdens on U.S. Corporations is opposed by Republicans in Ways and Means Committee; stapled packet of corresp. re/ issues for Dr. James W. Turpin (Project Concern, Inc. Coronado) concerning tax exemption; letter from Mrs. E. Ruiz (mother of four dependent children and a widow seeks tax exemption; other items in this folder concern issues such as: a conservative’s criticism of cooperatives as subversive to the American way of life, income tax for the blind refund delay for a Chula Vista couple, complaints from Navy retiree; income refund for a constituent; a letter (7/6/62) from the National Association of Manufactures criticizing the proposal by the AFL-CIO to reduce the first $1000 of taxable income to 15%. This would reduce billions in government revenue.
