Scope and Contents
A collection of letters, news excerpts & other items; these are filed from 1959-1958 and cover export and import items concerning Tibetan curios, electronics to Yugoslavia, agricultural products to Ceylon, Uruguayan wool, basketry, olives, rattan furniture, alien property, American salt, American and foreign oil. Examples are: letters (Apr.-June ’59) re/ a pair of copper and bronze Tibetan Temple Lions purchased by Wyn Warrick (Booksellers, La Jolla); letters (5/59) re/ Dept. of State concern related to Ken-Tel Division of Cohu Electronics sale to Yugoslavia; letters (Apr. & May’59) re/ surplus food to Ceylon; letters (12/55) re/ Uruguayan wool tops; letters (Mar.-Apr. ’59) re/ problems for Taxidermy-Tanning-Sculpturing industry; letters (1954-55) re/ threat to California olive industry from foreign imports and need to amend Tariff Act of 1930; telegram and letter (2/55) re/ need for free and unrestricted flow of rattan poles for U.S. industry; letters (Mar.-Apr. ’56) re/ Zeiss Camera seized by Alien Property Office and owner demands return; letters (Apr.-June ’58) re/ Western Salt Company complaint about difference between lower U.S. tariff on Mexican salt and higher Mexican tariff on U.S. salt; letters (4/3 & 4/10/58) re/ Venezuelan oil and tuna imports.
