Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, news clippings, telegrams and newsletters; these are filed in a random fashion. They represent Wilson, his constituents, the House Un-American Activities Committee and other perspectives on the subject of communism. Examples Are: a pro-Wilson letter (7/16/62) from Maria L. Stille (Descanso, CA) re/ her conservative views on the Council on Foreign Relations, ADA, Arthur Schlesinger and others; packet of letters & news clipping (12/61-1/62) re/ registration of communist members and other topics; letters and news clippings re/ concerns that Red Chinese troops are being brought into Mexico; more letters (Jan. & Feb) on the topic of Red Chinese soldiers in Mexico; letter (3/15/62) from CA Congressman (R. 25th Dist.) John H. Rousselot to Wilson re/ series of informal meetings of various organizations to be held in Washington, D.C. to exchange ideas on the communist menace; letters (Jan.-Feb. 1962) re/ fears of Mrs. John S. Mitchall, Jr. as to lack of communist party members to register and also paradox of known communists speaking in public but not allowing military leaders to speak; packet of letters, news clippings, telegrams and other items (March’61-May’62) re/ local concerns expressed in the San Diego Evening Tribune, Wilson and constituents about communists using the media; letters and brochure (Jan.-Feb.’62) re/ Special Meetings “Wake Up America!!” to be held in La Jolla with former F.B.I. agents as speakers; packet of letters and notice (Jan.-Mar. 1962) re/ Reverend Leon E. Raines’s sermon (Point Loma Community Church) – “THIS IS WAR;” letter (5/22/62) from Right Reverend Monsignor George M. Rice (Rector, Saint Joseph’s Cathedral, San Diego) to Wilson re/ appreciation for sending copies of the Guide to Subversive Organizations and Publications; packet of letters, memo and ballot proposal (Feb.’62) re/ Wilson to Miss Grace Lawrence - “Dear Grace: Thank you for sending me a copy of your petition to combat Communism;” office memo and letters (Oct. & Dec. ’61) re/ the issue of showing the film Operation Abolition; letters (4/28 & 5/11/62) and copy of Guide to Subversive Organizations and Publications; membership card and application cards for Anti-Communism Voters League; memo and letters (Jan.’62) re/ an Air Force Lt. Col. is concerned about the film and a professor at UC Berkeley: notices & letter (Oct. ’62) re/ Anti-Communism Voters League and Catholic Freedom Foundation; brochure from Women Strike for Peace, “Nuclear Test Cost Lives;” list of Guide to Subversive Organizations sent to people by Wilson’s office; letters to Wilson (10/3 & 29/62) and Peace Information Center of San Diego News Letter (Vol. I No. 7, Oct.’62) re/ House Un-American Committee; a number of letters (July.-Oct. ’62) regarding Wilson’s responses to letters from constituents – Descanso, La Mesa, Chula Vista, and El Cajon; letters (7/11 & 7/16/62) - Wilson’s response to Irma S. Murray, DAR, San Francisco for sending him a copy of their resolution in support of the Un-American Activities Committee.
