Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, information lists, news clippings, memos, commentaries, post cards, initiatives and a newspaper; these are filed from February to August 1962 in a random fashion. Examples Are: packet of letters (Feb.-Mar.) from Wilson, constituents Mr. & Mrs. Stille & the Assistant Secretary of Defense re/ circulation of petition by members of the Armed Services in San Diego to support conservative anti-communist views; copies of letter (6/25/62) to Wilson re/ “The Committee of One Million” & fears of Chinese forces and opposition to foreign policy proposals from the current administration; an official list of publications issued by the House Committee on Un-American Activities; letters (May-June’62) re/ the concerns of La Mesa constituent Gene Lyle relative to HEW Assistant Secretary Wilbur J. Cohen’s Socialist proclivities; Memo to: Marge O’Donnell, office note and news clipping re/ Democratic Party, left leaning actions & HUAC; letters (8/2 & 8/10/62) re/ copy of John Transue’s “paper presenting some views regarding the action which the U.S. should take in international affairs;” letters (Feb.-June ’62) re/ a pamphlet “Americans Abroad” be endorsed by President Kennedy;” postal card (5/22/62) from County Librarian Frances Anna Hahn thanking Wilson for sending 5 copies of Guide to Subversive Organizations and Publications; a number of letters & post cards (Jan.-July ’62) re/ committee activities and publications; news clipping The San Diego Union (7/16/62 re/ Bob Wilson says “GOP Charges ADA Overruns Administration;” letters (Jan. & Feb.’62) re/ concerns of George S. Parry (Principal, Will C. Crawford High School) as to a pamphlet brought to school that featured the General Strike for Peace organization; letters and note re/ Louis Francis amendment outlawing the Communist Party; letter (n.d.) from the Christian Anti-Communist Crusade featuring radio broadcasts and boycotts; letters (Jan.-Feb.) re/ search for copy of Dr. Charles Zalar’s Yugoslav Communism; From: Californian’s Committee to Combat Communism San Diego Division To: San Diego Citizens Subject: Initiative Measure to be Submitted Directly to the Electors “Control of Subversive Activities” deadline for signing of petitions is May 25, 1962; letter (July 1962) from Charles M. Barrack (Consultant Editor) to Wilson and attached copy of Evolve (Vol. II, No. 5, May 1962) featuring “Armstrong Hanging …Suicide Or Homicide?”
