A collection of pamphlets, letters, memos & reports. Examples are: 1 copy of Fire Service Directory 1980 (State of CA), 94 pages; 1 letter (3/28/79) from John C. Gerard (Chief Engineer & General Manager, City of Los Angeles), 1 page photocopy of “Firescope FY 78 Accomplishments” & Firescope pamphlet re/ a six year program of FIRESCOPE and a request of Wilson to support next year’s budget request for “the inclusion of $3.7 million in the monies for the United States Forest Service as their Fiscal Year 1980 portion of FIRESCOPE funding;” photocopy of letter (3/5/79) from Congressman Barry M. Goldwater, Jr. to Congessman Thomas S.Foley (Chairman, Comm. on Agriculture) re/ budget for U.S. Forest Service fire protection program & plea for inclusion funding for FIRESCOPE; stapled photocopy of the “Statement of the Watershed Fire Council of Southern California In Support of Fire & Fuel Managment Funds For The Southern Cali-fornia National Forests” (4/3/78) emphasizing “Chaparral Fuels Management-- $3,064,000,” “FIRESCOPE PROGRAM--$3,700,000,” other related information and needs and attached copy of “Membership Roster, 1977;” 1 photocopy of Congressional letter (12/8/75), signed by 19 members, to Congressman Sidney R. Yates (Chairman, Interior Appropriations Sub-committee) indicating that they “are very concerned that the Senate version of H.R. 8773 does not contain these funds [$1,250,000] for fuel modification program in Southern California forests;” stapled packet containing corresp. (Nov. 1974-Oct. 1975) from Congressman Wilson, Terry J. Knoepp (U.S. Attorney, So. Dist. of CA), Harry D. Steward (U.S.Attorney, So. Dist. of CA), Art Preston (Lakeside, CA) & Leon Parma (Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical) re/ the diffculty for Mr. Preston “in getting settlement in the loss of his property during the 1970 Laguna fires;” 2 letters (12/2/75) from Congressman John H. Rosuselot & Barry M. Goldwater, Jr.re/ “the critical situation in the Angeles National Forest following the recent fires & estimates as to costs for reseeding -- $500,000 -- & stabilization, rehabilitation & protection -- $3 million;” 1 letter (10/28/75) from Ross C. Provence (Attorney at Law) & Wilson’s response (11/6/75) re/ the activities of U.S. Robert H. Filsinger in trying to expedite Laguna Fire Claims; 1 letter (10/29/75) from Gerald J. O’Neill (Higgs, Fletcher & Mack) & Wilson’s response (11/6/75) re/ the Laguna Fire Claims & the diligent efforts of U.S. Attorny Filsinger to resolve these claims; small, stapled packet containing corresp. (Dec.1974-Jan. 1975) from Congress-man Wilson, Carla A. Hill ((Asst. Attorney General, Dept. of Justice) & Ross C. Provence (Provence & Provence & Higgs, Fletcher & Mack) re/ plaintiffs claims “are close to six million ($6,000,000). Settlement was made this past September with the U.S. Attorney’s office here on the basis of fifty percent (50%) of provable damage, as established by agreement or proof in court.” Plaintiffs included Insurance Company of North America, National Fire Insurance Company of Hartford, Fire Insurance Exchange, Fireman’s Fund & Industrial Indemnity--their approved claims totalled over 1/2 million dollars.
