Scope and Contents

A small collection of corresp., notices, maps, photos & other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers materials. Examples are: One letter (2/22/79) from Congressman Wilson to Ms Francis K. Nelson thanking her “for sending me a copy of your telegram to Jennings Randolph regarding the decision-making of harbor facilities” (mailgram attached to Wilson’s letter); 1 copy of Dept. of the Army, Los Angeles Dist., Corps of Engineers, two stapled packets containing “Public Notice For San Diego Harbor Federal Dredging Project” (5/20/79) & attached (8/73) map showing dredging & disposal areas -- “approximately 8,535,000 cubic yards of material will be dredged from San Diego Bay;” 1 copy of U.S. Corps of Engineers, “Notice of a Public Meeting For Navigation Improvement of San Diego Harbor,” (notice issued 8/2/73 for meeting on 8/22 in National City), attached copy of map showing “General Plan & 8 Cross Sections of Fill Areas” and stapled copy of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Diego Harbor Channel Deepening Project (Public Information) (n.d.) which includes photos & maps of the proposed project; excerpt from Congressional Committee publication (pp. 631634, but date & source not identified) which reproduces statements of Congressman Wilson, William L. Dick (Dir., Govt. Rel. S. D. Unified Port Dist.), Lawrence Whiteneck (Chief Harbor Engineer, Port of Los Angeles) & Cliff Madison (legistlative asst. to Congressman Glenn M. Anderson) re/ limited budget & environmental concerns vs. commercial needs in S.D & L.A. Harbors & includes mention of 2nd entrance to S.D. Bay; 1 copy of a letter (6/26/73) from Adm. C.R. Bender (Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard) to Congressman Wilson informing Wilson “that Point Loma Light House Station will be placed in automatic operation on or about 30 June 1973;” 1 copy of “Memorandum--To: Jack Broward From: Paul Tsompanas” & attached photocopy of news article from Chula Vista Star (7/19/73) “1 Million awaits green light, environmentalists block dredging in bay” re/ Wilson’s support for the dredging project as related to the “Navy’s relocation of its fleet from Long Beach to San Diego.”
