Scope and Contents

A collection of letters, telegrams, news commentaries and reports related primarily to military contracting. Examples are: A two page “Shipbuilding, Ship Repair and Merchant Marine Resolution” from the Industrial Union of Marine & Shipbuilding Workers, Local Union #9, AFL-CIO (3/4/64); 1 Western Union telegram , office memos & letters (Oct.-Nov. 1964) from constituent D.J. Vanoy, Cathy & Mini (Wilson office staff) & Congressman Wilson re/ his response to questions about the $6.3 million contract with a Norwegian shipyard to build “‘Nasty Boats’ rather than use U.S. shipyards; a small collection of letters from Carl Tatus (President, Tatco Shipbuilding Corp., National City) & Congressman Wilson’s reply (Aug.-Oct. 1964) re/ Tetco’s contracts with the Navy & the need to for access to San Diego Bay; a large selection of letters from constituents & Wilson’s replies (4/65) re/ the controversy “over the 35/65 ship repair clause in the Defense Appropriations Act for 1965.” The numbers indicated 35% for commercial yards & 65% for Navy yards; 1 letter (4/15/65) from Arthur E.
