Examples are: teletype message (10/27/71) to Congressman Wilson from John M. Murray (NASSCO) re/ “the following Republican members are still not for HR 10577 [the sale of U.S. Flag vessels to foreign interests];” photocopy of news release from DOT (8/12/71) re/ “Contract Awards By the Military Departments--Navy...National Steel and Shipbuilding Co....a $1,361,968 ... [for the] alteration and repair of the ... USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63);” “Memo For The Record’ (7/20/71) & 1 page copy of “Schedule of Events Launch of Harlan County (LST-1196) July 24, 1971;” constituent letter to Congressman Wilson & his reply (4/71) re/ future shipyard work & efforts to have repair of Kitty Hawk done at NASSCO; letter from John V. Banks (Ex. Sales, NASSCO) & 1 copy of S. 3287, 91st Cong., 1st Sess (12/22/69, 39 pages); stapled copies of letters & office notes from Congressman Wilson, Paul Tsompanas & Dr. George H. Burkhart (Feb.-Mar. 1970) re/ sabotage at NASSCO, F.B.I. investigation & rumor of “Black Militant” involvement; stapled packet containing corresp. from Congressman Wilson Andrew E. Gibson (Maritime Adm., Department of Commerce), Helen Delich Bentley (Chair, Federal Maritime Commission) & John M. Murphy (NASSCO) (Jan.-Feb. 1970) re/ “decision by American Export Isbrandsten Lines, Inc. not to proceed with the execution of a contract with National Steel and Shipbuilding Company to construct six containerships...” because of potential competition from Sea-Land Service, Inc. & U.S. Lines, Inc. [NASSCO was low bidder on the contract with $29, 058,000]
