A small collection of letters & news articles related to the National Leagues’ proposed transfer of the San Diego Padres franchise to Washington D.C. Examples are: Five letters from constituents, organizations , with photocopies of local editorials & news articles & Congressman Wilson’s replies to these queries (12/73) re/ anger over the prospect of losing the Padres to Washington D.C., plus having the taxpayers help defray the cost; letter from S.D. Taxpayer’s Assoc. & Congressman Wilson’s reply (12/73) re/ Bd. of Dir.’s concern over $300,885 annual deficit for the San Diego Stadium without the Padres as one of its primary tenants; copies of letters from 6 constituents, Wilson’s responses & news commentary by Jack Murphy (Sports Ed., San Diego Union) (12/73) re/ angry complaints from Republicans about taypayer subsidies to sports teams & Wilson’s comment of “Rest assured that I am working closely with Mayor Pete Wilson and City Attorney John Witt to keep the Padres in San Diego;” photocopy of unsigned “12-7-73” note “To: Gerald Ford (or Nixon, one and the same), Carl Albert, Birch Bayh, Thomas Eagleton, Bernie Sisk and to all the other Politicians That stole our Padres from San Diego. You are a sorry lot and a disgrace to our country....Mr. Wilson, and what have you done to keep the Padres in San Diego???”
