This program was begun in 1971.... The San Diego Symphony will be among those involved in the study;” large stapled packet containing “November 13, 1970 Notice of Grant...National Endowment for the Arts...San Diego Symphony ...$19,700...[and] attached press release...Forty Symphony Orchestras Received Grants...totalling $1,820,060,” ($333,000 of this from private donations), corresp. from Congressman Wilson & Robert J. Sullivan (Pres., S.D. Symphony Orch. Assoc.) (2/70) re/ “Bob--can you give us a lead on federal funding for the cultural arts?” & membership application form for S.D. Symphony Assoc. with attached “proportions of Income and Expenses for a Normal Year [1968-1969 season].”
