Summary Note

In connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman LEO J. RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States. On March 28, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B62-102. This tape was found to contain the following: Side 1 includes a conversation by at least three males regarding some campaign. Reference is made to the "mayor" and to assistance to be given by members of the People’s Temple. At one point, one voice says he does not want to give BARBEGELATA something he can be firing at him. Discussion includes possible appointment of People’s Temple people to the Human Rights Commission, the Redevelopment Commission, and the Police Commission of San Francisco. Names of people, including CHARLIE BROWN, JUDY CLOWARD, DIANE WOODS, RHONDA CRAWFORD, LOU DAVIS, and CAROLUN LOOMAN are mentioned, however, their status is not clear. Side 2 of the tape is a continuation of the conversation plus a recording of a television news broadcast of News Scene with VAN AMBURG, JERRY JENSEN, and PETER CLEVELAND, who interviews MARIE DUNCAN or DUCKETT, a reformed narcotics addict and People’s Temple member, and Reverend JIM JONES of the People’s Temple. Full FBI's summary of the recording available at Alternative Considerations of Jonestown website. There is currently no transcript of the recording.
