Two travel diaries and one personal diary written by Pauline Black. The travel diaries document a trip to the United Kingdom taken by Pauline and her father between April and August of 1902 to visit family, as well as their trip "around the world" from September 1910 to August 1911. In the 1902 diary Black describes traveling east across the United States by train, seeing Native Americans at many train stations, stopping in many "western towns which are very uninteresting," crossing the Mississippi, and sightseeing in New York City before traveling across the Atlantic where she met several of her cousins, aunts, and uncles for the first time. She describes sightingseeing in Glasgow, Balmoral, Edinburgh, and Oxford. Her diary describing her world tour with her father commences on September 7, 1910. After December 31, 1910, she continued in the same diary, but penned "1911" after "January" to denote the change of year. She describes sailing from Puget Sound to Yokohama, Japan, and visiting numerous sites and cities throughout the trip including Tokyo, Kyoto, Shanghai, Singapore (where she found herslef "in a typhoon"), sailing around the African coast, passing through the Suez Canal, visiting Cairo (where she and her father saw boys "studying the Koran, swaying back and forth, reciting it out loud,") and numerous spots in Italy. The third diary is a daily journal she kept from 1916 to 1920. The first entry is January 1, 1916, opening day of the Panama-California International Exposition in Balboa Park, which she describes briefly. She describes her father's death in March of 1917, as well as the more mundane details of life, including faculty meetings, meals, the weather, and spending time with friends.
